January 2015 Birchbox With Women’s Health

Fancy a sneak peek into this month’s Birchbox? Of course you do!

(In case you don’t know what Birchbox do or what I’m talking about, take a look HERE.)

January has rolled around and if you’re anything like me, all of your clothes feel that little bit tighter and you’ve probably made countless (unrealistic) resolutions to sort out your lifestyle and eating. Well, Birchbox are here to help.

January 2015 Birchbox With Women’s Health

For their first box of 2015, they have teamed up with Women’s Health magazine to bring you a box called ‘Hit Refresh’ – focused on small changes that add up to a big difference. Here’s what is included:

Stila lip glaze – When I saw a FULL SIZE Stila lip glaze I actually gasped (yes I probably need some other hobbies other than lip products). These are about £15 to buy, so you’ve already got the price of the box right there (and then some) which always makes me very happy. I remember stealing lip glazes from my sister when I was younger, when Stila seemed like a very high-end and unattainable brand for me. They are non-sticky, quite pigmented from a gloss and smell lovely.

Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner – Philip Kingsley hair products are always raved about but are quite pricey, so I was happy to see a sample size tube in this box. This conditioner is designed to improve hair’s strength and condition while adding shine, I’m definitely going to be taking this away with me on holiday at the end of the month to save space!

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask – I love the sound of this mask but I’m always concerned about my rosacea when it comes to renewal products. I may pass this on to a friend (something I actually love about Birchboxes – not everything will be your cup of tea but I always know someone else who will love the bits that don’t appeal to me).

Activebod Cooling Finish Lotion – I had never heard of Activebod before, but apparently they are products that are targeted at gym-goers and sporty folk (can you tell that concept is quite alien to me?!) This gel has a menthol scent and feels quite tingly on the skin, so I imagine this would feel lovely and invigorating after a work out.

Healgel Intensive – I think I got a sample of the HealGel Face cream in a previous Birchbox but haven’t had chance to try it so I’m intrigued to try this Intensive version. HealGel was designed for use on post-surgery scarring so it’s suitable for very sensitive skin. This particular version is (according to the website) “a light, delicately scented and easily absorbed cooling aqueous gel to restore and protect the areas where it is most needed.” That all sounds pretty good to me!

Embrace Matcha green tea – I drink a lot of flavoured green teas, but am not a big fan of pure green tea. However, this is a loose mix as opposed to a tea bag, so I will probably mix this into a smoothie.

Birchbox pilates band – I’ve never tried an exercise band before, but I might give it a go as they’re meant to be great for toning.

All in all it’s a pretty good box with some very well known brands. As this is a collaboration between Birchbox and Women’s Health, you can also subscribe to Women’s Health Magazine for 10 issues for just £18 saving 52% which is a brilliant offer.

Also included is a booklet with ‘easy wins’ – small changes you can make to your everyday life. I am definitely one of those people who has always tried to make huge and frankly ridiculous changes and then wondered why I failed miserably 2 weeks into the year. “I’m going to work out 5 times a week. And give up alcohol. And never eat crisps again.” Yeah, okay Lex. That seems feasible. These tips are small and feel manageable – squats while the kettle boils (at home, obviously. My work has an open plan office and no one can style out public squats in front of colleagues). Crab walking with the pilates band round your ankles while the credits of American Horror Story/The O.C/insert whatever box set you’re obsessed with here.

I have seen a few grumbles on twitter about this box, but I think it’s great. I’m not the target market as I am inherently lazy and don’t really do much exercise, but I love the theme and think that most of the products can be used by anyone regardless of their fitness levels! Birchbox subscriptions are £10 per month (plus £2.95 P&P), with reductions if you get a longer subscription. I think these are a great present, or a lovely treat to yourself if you’re into beauty or would like to discover more without wasting money on full size products.

You can also get £5 off this month’s box with the code JAN5. What are you waiting for?

Lex
