When I was given the new La Roche Posay Effaclar BB Blur* at an event I thought it sounded interesting but I was put off by the ‘BB’ aspect. I’m a huge fan of Japanese BB creams but the UK versions are a totally different beast: light coverage, dewy and nowhere near suitable for covering my rosacea redness. However, I am happy to say I was very wrong about this little tube of magic.

But to summarise what I’m looking for in make up: I need something that is heavy coverage to ensure my redness doesn’t peek through. But it can’t be heavy in thickness and consistency, otherwise my skin becomes aggravated and can trigger a flare up. Do you see the problem? I typically have had to choose between mask-like foundations that leave me looking flawless but feeling uncomfortable…or wear make up that makes my skin feel cared for but ultimately leaves me feeling self conscious due to my rosacea still being on show.

Hi Lex, I follow you on Twitter but my account is locked so thought I’d comment here. Just wondered what type of brush you generally use to apply base? I haven’t really found a shape of brush I like for liquid foundation & so use my fingers but I think it affects the finish.
I also really wish I could buy small sample sizes of stuff like this, not sure whether it might be too dark for my ghostly face! I am tempted to try it but I’ve splurged so much on the wrong products for my skin tone in the past. Really encouraged by the coverage & feel of this product though… Wonder if we are finally moving away from high coverage equalling mask face unless you spend £50+! (I need to buy carpets and furniture! Ha ha)

Hello! I like to use flat topped, dense brushes that are super big – the fewer strokes I need to cover my face the better! The one I use in this video is my favourite, it’s a Zoeva one – I’ve just updated the blog post to include more info as quite a few people have asked the same question!
With regards to a tester, I would contact them and ask if they have any samples you can try. I know how annoying it is to waste money on something that isn’t right for you.

Firstly your nails are incredible, I was mesmerized by them for the whole video haha! I’ve heard so much about this BB Cream, it sounds so different to other ones on the market. I just wish they had a slightly lighter shade as I’d snap it up! It looks great on you xx

I do think the lack of shade options is my only negative about this foundation (that and the slightly weird texture on the brush but I can ignore that as it doesn’t feel weird on application!). Hopefully they will hear our cries and bring out some more shades at both ends of the spectrum! x
Totally going to be recommending this to my Mum, she suffers from Rosacea too and is always after high-coverage, but natural looking base xx

I ordered this after seeing your video. I don’t have rosacea but I do have acne and my nose is also very dry at the moment. I wore it yesterday, it went on a little orangey but once I had spread it out it was fine, as I have fairly pale skin.
I plan to wear it every day this week to work to see how it goes. I’m hoping I might see an improvement in my dry nose and hopefully less shiny by lunchtime. If it is a winner I will be stocking up!

It is good, but I’m still super shiny by the end of the day. My nose skin was too dry and it wasn’t keeping it covered very well and looked shiny and flaky! I still like it as its no worse than any other liquid/mousse I use.
It did a good job of covering dark circles. I’ll probably stick to wearing it weekends when I have more chance to top up with a translucent powder.

Thanks for the update – what are you using on your nose to help with the dry skin? When my rosacea triggers my dermatitis I use the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 as it’s fantastic at soothing and sorting out dry skin, so I would really recommend that. It’s tricky to find a foundation that will look natural over dry skin, something I really struggled with when I was first diagnosed. Hope that helps 🙂
Hi Lex, would you say this is suitable for severe facial Keratosis Pilaris? My face is a lot redder than yours. At the moment I wear camouflage make up (foundation and powder) but it’s very mask-like, so I would love to try something different, and stop looking like a transvestite 🙁

Hi Laura, I’m not an expert on KP but I would say that from my experience it would definitely cover any redness associated with it. My only caveat would be if it’s dry as the matte finish on this may make the skin drier and may emphasise any dryness. Did you see I also reviewed the Vichy Dermablend foundation which I would say is a smudge higher coverage than the LRP BB Blur? Review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j51A4ak393Y. The finish isn’t as matte as the LRP foundation so if you do have dryness, this one may be better. I hope this helps 🙂
Hi….I have rosacea ache ….fired up last year.
I must say it’s a pain in the f**king arse,my skin goes from all over rashes with small white spots to dry and flaky with a rash.I am trying to find a moisturiser and foundation that covers without causing it to separate during the day,I work in a hot environment and my face sweats a lot causing flare ups…have tried so many expensive products and was thinking about the BBC cream for my next frankenstine experiment…any tips would be helpful

Hi Deborah, I can totally relate. Your skin sounds very similar to mine and it makes it very difficult to know how to treat and cover your skin as it is different every day. Have you seen my YouTube channel? I review foundations on there so you can see the ones that I like the best. You can find it HERE. If you work in a hot environment, I would recommend a very lightweight moisturiser (look for emulsions rather than creams). Well I’m definitely going to try the cleansing oil from super drug and the light weight cream and bb foundation from la roche posay…my skin has decided to be ridiculously dry this wk with a beautiful looking rash too boot and bless the girls at debenhams as that’s where I work they are throwing testers left right and centre and so far my skin is screaming at all of them.I will let you know how I get on also trying the cider vinger drink every day along with extra vitamin e,been on this for a few days so you never know.Got to the point where I will try anything.
