Subscription boxes have been everywhere for the past few years and it’s not hard to see why. Firstly, everyone loves getting post. Secondly, the idea of someone choosing a few beauty bits and curating them for you is so appealing. Let’s have a peek at the Meebox nail subscription box!*
I do like a themed subscription box and this one is Rio themed, just in time for the Olympics. Meebox announce that month’s theme on the 1st of the month (without spoiling the surprise of the items included) and you can then decide if you want to subscribe. These are probably not shades I would have picked, which is another reason I love these types of boxes: it pushes you to try things you may not have otherwise come across.
I’ll quickly go through the details of Meebox then we can look at the box’s contents in more depth. The box is £20 a month, which (if memory serves) is a little more expensive than similar boxes, but there are deals for longer subscription periods. You get 4-5 nail varnish related items every month – this is an important distinction to make. You don’t get 4-5 nail polishes. So to take this month’s box as an example, you get 3 full size polishes, a sheet of nail decals and a Tweexy – an amazing little contraption that you wear like a ring and it holds your nail varnish while you paint your nails!
Here’s the manicure I did to showcase the nail varnishes in this month’s Meebox nail subscription box. I didn’t feel super excited when I first saw them but really like them all now that they’re on my nails.
First up is ‘Denim With Diamonds’ from Trust Fund Beauty. This brand have been on my to-try list for a while so I’m really pleased this was included. It’s a bright blue jelly base with pretty light blue shimmer running through it. It needed three coats for full opacity which is standard for a jelly. The brush is quite long so can be a little unwieldy on application but I quickly got used to it.
This beautiful neon is ‘Luis Lemon’ from Models Own and my gosh is this bright! I put this over a white base to really make it pop and can’t quite believe the colour of it. It’s the exact shade of the yellow highlighters you used at school! This only needed one coat when applied over a white polish and dried a little matte (typical for neon polishes) – all of the pictures in this post show the manicure topped with Seche Vite.
I’d never heard of Morgan Taylor nail polishes but I was very impressed. It had a wide brush, a lovely formula and only needed one coat for full opacity. I definitely want to try some more colours from them as this one totally won me over. This is ‘Later Alligator’.
In the below picture you can see the Tweexy and how it works. The flaps fold in to keep the nail varnish bottle in place and will be big enough to fit any bottle size.
I’ve only tried nail decals a few times and find them quite fiddly but these from ‘Deco It’ look quite good as there’s no trimming. I haven’t tried them yet but will update this blog post when I do!
