High Definition Salon Review

A few weeks ago I was invited to the High Definition Salon in Notting Hill to try out their lash lift service* and to top up my HD brows*. I am a total convert to both of these treatments and couldn’t wait to show you the results. Keep reading for my High Definition Salon review…

I have very fair hair and skin so my eyebrows have always just faded away unless I draw them in. I first tried eyebrow tinting before my honeymoon two years ago and couldn’t believe I’d gone so long without trying it. Tinting the hairs adds so much definition and structure to your face, making you look more awake – and also more put together – in one sweep. Along with pale, sparse brows, I have fair eyelashes that aren’t particularly long and don’t have much of a natural curl to them. Here is my before-treatment photo to show you the hilarious lack of brows and meh lashes…

(Full disclosure: I have foundation concealer and powder on in this picture. My rosacea didn’t just magically heal itself!)

The High Definition salon is in Notting Hill which worked well for me as I was an hour early for my appointment and we all know what that means… wandering around and planning which house you’d buy if you won the lottery. No? Just me?

The salon itself is gorgeous: black and white, high ceilings, products artfully displayed everywhere.

I am especially keen to go back and try the pedicure station – the huge booth looks so comfy and chic. Maybe I can get over my aversion to people touching my feet to review it…!

We started work on my brows first: if you haven’t had HD brows done before, they combine waxing, threading and plucking to give a really defined and clean finish. I prefer a messy brow rather than a super sleek look and Rebecca took that on board when shaping my eyebrows. I always thought waxing would really hurt and would be too aggressive for my sensitive skin but it was fine, with no flare ups afterwards. Once the brows were shaped, the tint was applied and left to work its magic.

Next up was eyelashes. If you follow me on snapchat (username talontedlex!), you’ll know that I have had a lash lift before and loved the effect. However, I had it done at an open press day with lots of people around so I have to admit that I found the lash lift at the High Definition salon a lot more relaxing and comfortable! Flexible strips are applied to your lower eyelid – to hold down the bottom eyelashes- and to your top eyelid to form the backing for the lash lift. The photo below demonstrates what I mean a lot better than my description!

The patches are very gentle; they don’t tug on the skin around your eyes and don’t feel at all uncomfortable. The only strange thing is keeping your eyes closed for the duration – which is probably about 40 mins in total which sounds like ages but it goes very quickly. You could even get a pedicure or manicure while your lashes lifted! There are a few stages to the lash lift, ending with an optional lash tint. For me this was definitely needed so when they asked me what colour I wanted to go for, I chose the blackest black they had!

The lash lift lasts for about 6 weeks, depending on your natural rate of lash fall out. It’s essentially like a perm for the lashes, boosting them at the roots so that the whole length of the lash is shown. It’s brilliant for those with stubby or straight eyelashes and really changes the way your eyes look. Personally I love the wide awake look it gives me, even when I have no make up on.

Here is the after photo, so you can see the results. This is shown with a bit of the HD Brows Brow Tec ‘002 Foxy’ retractable eyebrow pencil and some gel on the brows but absolutely no make up on the eyelashes.

Don’t they look amazing? I’m so so pleased with them. The only tiny negative is that some of my lower lashes obviously got caught up in the upper lashes when they were being lifted so there’s a slight kink in the outer corners, but that’s something probably only noticeable to me! I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go back to normal lashes after this treatment… I want my lashes and brows to look like this forever!

Here’s a before and after photo – everyone loves a before and after!

High Definition Salon

If you’re looking for a way to save yourself time on a morning, want to avoid hassle on holiday, or just want to look more put together without make up, I cannot recommend HD brows and a lash lift enough. The High Definition salon in Notting Hill was lovely, as were the staff, but there is also a salon in Milton Keynes if that’s a better location for you. HD brows are £40 and a lash lift is £65. Are either of these treatments calling to you? Which would you go for?

Both your brows and lashes look amazing! I’d love to get my lashes done but it’s a bit spendy for me at the moment. Maybe if Mr Mouse and I ever get to go on a honeymoon I’ll treat myself

Thank you, I’m so pleased with them! It is a little pricey, I think it’s a lovely treat for a holiday/honeymoon so you don’t have to think about it. For someone like me it’s ideal, as I’m so lazy (I always leave next to no time to get ready on a morning) and it helps me to look ‘put together’ before I even start with make up! I’d rather spend the morning and save myself time 🙂

Hello! Thank you for the comment 🙂 The brow tinting lasts for 4-6 weeks (depending on the products you use, e.g. if you use oils to remove make up or on your skin then that will break down the dye quicker)
