Essie Resort 2017 Review // Talonted Lex

At the moment it is sweltering in London so the Essie Resort 2017 collection has come at the perfect time. It’s full of pastels and brights but throws in some unique colours to give this a little bit of excitement. FYI these polishes are limited edition and will not be restocked after the 4th of July, so if any of these catch your eye I would hurry along to pick them up!

The Essie Resort 2017 collection is inspired by Italy’s Amalfi coast, somewhere I dream of visiting. I’m sure that, just by looking at the bottle shot above, you can guess which are my favourites – but let’s take bets! And don’t forget to head to the comments after you’ve swooned over the colours to tell me which are your picks.

Essie ‘strike a pose-itano’* – This is a lovely blue-toned mint green that I think will be very popular as this type of shade is always a favourite for the summer months. I was very surprised that this only needed two coats, as pastels are always tricky when it comes to coverage. However, you will need a top coat (I still don’t understand people who don’t use topcoat, but I know you’re out there…!) as the formula is quite thin and picks up allll the ridges and flaws in your nails – it doesn’t have the typical shiny Essie finish.

If you were wondering, it’s a little bit more blue than Essie ‘mint candy apple‘, so if you love that but need enabling let me help: you probably need both…!

Essie ‘ciao effect’* – UNGGGHHHH this polish is all of my dreams come true. You’ve all heard me talk about my love for grurple (grey-purple) polishes, but most of the ones in my stash are quite autumnal/wintery, whereas this feels very pretty and summery. LOVE LOVE LOVE. This was another two coater, and similarly to the above polish, it needed a topcoat to plump it out and give it a smooth finish.

Essie ‘sorrento yourself’* – Another stunning shade, and one that will work perfectly in the warmer months but will also carry very well into the colder season. This is a rosy terracotta and I adore it. It was very hard to photograph for some reason, but I’d say the left-hand photo (with the bottle) captures the warmth best. This was an easy two coater and had the typical essie shiny formula.

Essie ‘resort romanza’* – This is a beautiful colour but probably the at the bottom of the pile for me, just because I have lots of polishes that are similar to this so it doesn’t excite me as much as the others. But I appreciate that most people don’t have 700+ nail varnishes so if you’re looking for a deep, vibrant (almost lobster-like) pink then Essie do them incredibly well.

I am really impressed by the Essie Resort 2017 collection. Don’t forget that these are only available until 4th of July (HERE) so get your skates on! I am hoping against hope that ‘ciao effect’ makes it into the permanent collection. I think it is such a unique shade in the existing range so it would be a shame for it to disappear. Which would you save?
