FRIDAY FAVES: Make Up & Murder

This week has felt so long so I’m very happy to be writing my Friday Faves! The weather may be utterly miserable but I’m in a fantastic mood as my skin is finally looking a little better after this week’s flare up (more on that here) and later today I’m heading out for Hayley’s hen do with Jane and Kirsty which should be a lot of fun: gossiping, talking beauty, and putting the world to rights over afternoon tea and cocktails. The dream! What are you up to today?

Friday Faves: Murder and make up

Today’s Friday Faves have two themes: make up and murder. If you’re not a fan of either then I apologise now. Perhaps have a scroll through my previous Friday Faves HERE for something more up your street!

You should all know by now that I’m obsessed with murder/crime podcasts and every single US podcast mentions Forensic Files in passing, and I’ve always been very intrigued. So imagine my pure JOY when I found out that almost all of the series are available on Amazon Prime! It is our new background TV of choice: we’ll put it on when Aaron gets home from work and faff on our laptops and phones while chatting about the creepy murder stories, incredible names (Cindy Pancake!), and stunning 90s hair and make up. I think you’ll love it.

First Day Back podcast

Talking of morbid podcasts, I listened to the entire second season of the First Day Back podcast yesterday and knew I had to recommend it today. The concept of the podcast is to tell stories about returning to your life after going through a truly life-changing event. I skipped the first season and went straight to season two which is about a woman trying to cope after murdering her partner and having no memory of it. I usually hate serialised podcasts but this one was so well done and the story was so heartbreaking and interesting that I bent my own rules.

Oh god I’ve just realised that this is the third Friday Faves item that relates to murder… I promise I’m not a total ghoul! I’ve seen so many people recommending The Fact Of A Body: A Murder and A Memoir and I can totally see why. As the title suggests, it combines an investigation into a child murder and the history of those involved, as well as the story of the author’s childhood and the upsetting similarities that bind the two together. I’m still reading it but knew I had to include it as it’s wonderful – plus the Kindle version is only 99p!

Okay, enough murder! Have some make up favourites to cheer up this post a little…

I have huge boxes on my dressing table that are filled with make up that I need to test out. This sounds like a dream but when you only have one face, it’s hard to get through it all (I know, I know, first world problems!) Earlier this week, I did a whole face of make up with untried products and it was really fun. If you follow me on Instagram, I did a some stories with my first impressions and they went down really well so I think I’ll do it more often. I was impressed by a lot of the products I used but there were four in particular that I loved so I knew I had to put them into my Friday Faves.

It Cosmetics CC Cream - great for rosacea

The first is the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream* which is something I’ve been wanting to try for ages as the founder also has rosacea so it’s achieved cult status among those with skin issues. I was expecting really high coverage so I was a little disappointed at first (I’d say it’s medium coverage but easy to build to high coverage) but I absolutely love how natural it looks and feels on the skin.

Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, great for added radiance under make up

Under foundation I’ve been wearing the Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer* which is very, very glowy (I applied too much the first time I used it and looked a bit like a sexy robot…!) but once you’ve got make up on top it’s so beautiful. It smoothes the appearance of large pores, adds radiance and provides a great base for foundation.

The Rodial Instaglam Contour Deluxe powder* is absolutely gorgeous: smooth, grey-toned (so very flattering for pale blondes like me), and subtle enough that you won’t end up looking muddy. The packaging alone has me swooning!

B. Velvet Matte 'Tainted' lipstick, the perfect autumn shade

Finally in the make up section of my Friday Faves is the B. Velvet Matte lipstick in ‘Tainted’* – can you imagine a more perfect autumnal shade? If you’ve never tried any products from B. then I recommend going to have a look, as their make up and skincare are both wonderful. This lipstick has a ‘comfort matte’ formula so if you’re not a fan of the super dry mattes then this will appeal to you.
