Watermelon Nail Art Manicure

This weekend the weather was absolutely glorious. It finally felt like it was the start of summer. And to honour that, I decided to do some fruity watermelon nail art. I hated this manicure until the moment I put top coat on and then I fell in love with it! (Does anyone else do this? All of my manicures are hideous until the very last second when they come together!)

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Varnish

If you’re a regular round her you’ll know I’m a big fan of Barry M, especially their nail varnishes. Great colours and finishes for a very affordable price, what could be better? So when I spotted the new Barry M Speedy Quick Dry nail paints I was powerless to resist. They just dropped into my basket. We’ve all been there.

These aren’t my best gradients but in my defence I was going to do something over the top so they didn’t need to be too perfect. However, I ran out of time and patience with them and decided they would be fine as they were! #nailbloggerproblems

These were done with Barry M pastel nail varnishes and are topped with two coats of Essie ‘Good To Go’ (Still not liking it as much as Seche Vite by the way…)

I’ve done a tutorial here for how to do gradients, this is the same principle but with 4 colours instead of 2.

I might actually update these tomorrow and post some pictures as I’m still not too enamoured with them…

I’ve reviewed some of the other Barry M Gelly polishes before and have been very vocal about how much I like them, but I was a bit disappointed by this polish.

The colour is amazing – you can see that from the pictures. I am a huge fan of green polishes on all forms but lime green holds a special place in my heart. This is no exception. It’s bright, it’s summery, it’s obnoxious… it’s perfect. But the formula was a nightmare. It was so thick and stringy. I added some nail varnish thinner to it but it was still horrible. It was drying as I was trying to apply it, which made it drag and made the finish bumpy. I had to apply two coats of Seche Vite to make it look presentable, which is a first for me with Barry M polishes. I’m hoping it was just a bad batch as I have some other polishes from this range lined up to try and will be gutted if they’re just as bad.

You can buy the range HERE. Do let me know your experiences with this product as I’m hoping it’s just this bottle.

This is just such an unusual polish and it’s not just the finish which – as you can see from the images – is a grainy, matte texture. But this has a glitter to it that catches the sun which really adds something to it.

These textured finish nails had such a mixed reaction on Twitter and Instagram – they might not be your kind of thing but they are certainly eye-catching!

If you’re like me and love the textured finish look, you can buy Barry M Textured Effects Station Road HERE. You can also see my review of one of the other polishes from this collection HERE – I can’t decide which one I like more!
