5 Product Face Challenge

5 Product Face Challenge

I’m not going to lie when I first contemplated the 5 Product Face Challenge it filled me with fear. I usually have an 8 or 9 (or 10 – 15…) product face so this was always going to be tough. Luckily I was working at home today so my panic was quite short-lived!

So, in order, my 5 product face is as follows:

  • Rimmel ‘Lasting Finish’ foundation.  Base was my obvious first choice as, due to my rosacea, I would never ever consider a make up look without foundation.
  • Collection ‘Lasting Perfection’ concealer. My under eye bags are dreadful and I think concealer under your eyes is one of the easiest way to brighten your whole face.
  • Soap & Glory ‘Archery’ eyebrow pencil. As a blonde with very fair eyebrows I *needed* brow products!
  • Sleek ‘Sweet Cheeks’ blush palette (I used ‘Cupcake’). After covering my rosacea redness, I needed something to put some life back into my cheeks.
  • Rimmel ‘Scandaleyes’ mascara. Again, blonde hair is a curse!

I don’t think this look is too bad for 5 products, but I definitely won’t be making the 5 product face a regular thing. I doubt this would last long without my primer and powder and I miss eyeshadow and lipstick!

What would you choose for your 5 product face?

Money Supermarket’s Big Night In

Money Supermarket’s Big Night In – Recessionistas unite!

I was asked by MoneySupermarket.com to hold a Big Night In as a blogger challenge. Nights out can be really expensive, especially in London where you don’t get much change from a tenner for a cocktail!

The challenge was to spend £50 on a night in for me and my friends to prove that you can have fun without breaking the bank. You can read all about the competition here The competition has now finished.

Money Supermarket’s Big Night In

I decided to stick to the ‘recessionista’ theme and hold a fashion and beauty swap shop: everyone had a wardrobe and cosmetics clear out and brought things they no longer wanted with them. Then we piled it all up and had a rummage through. The old saying is true: one girl’s trash really is another girl’s treasure! I got a Clinique moisturiser that was too rich for my friend’s skin but will be perfect for my thirsty skin…along with tons of dresses and tops. I love the idea of a swap shop: you get the same buzz you get from buying something new, but without having to spend any money. It’s a free wardrobe refresh!

Obviously swap shopping is thirsty work, so I provided fashion-themed cocktails (The cocktail menu is above: Christopher Kane-d anyone?)

There were also sweet treats in the form of (hand-decorated by us!) cupcakes with fashion icon logos and every other food had to be a pun: Donut-ella Versace, Pizza Pilotto, Jimmy Shoo Pastry… so much fun!

I also painted nails as another pampering treat while we watched fashion related films: The September Issue and The Devil Wears Prada.

The whole day was so much fun and everyone had a ball, we definitely proved to ourselves that you don’t need to go out to have a laugh. I really recommend a swap shop evening if money is a bit tight (or you’re having one of those ‘I HATE EVERYTHING I OWN’ months!)

Thanks for the challenge, Money Supermarket!

Boyfriend Make Up Challenge Video

So I decided to do my first ever YouTube video and what better way to start than to do a boyfriend make up challenge video.

Meet Aaron, my fiancee. Prepare to be amazed at his make up skills… or not.

Good evening 🙂

Today’s theme was ‘Inspired by fashion’ and I immediately thought of the below top by Balmain. It is so beautiful I would consider selling my own mother to get it.

I did 2 coats of white polish (Rimmel) and applied fast-drying top coat (ORLY Sec ‘n’ Dry). I then used 17’s ‘Fury’ and some strategically-placed tape to achieve most of the straight lines. I used a tiny paintbrush to freehand the rest.

I applied another layer of top coat and then used my favourite glitter polish (Models Own ‘Judge Jools’) and a spotting tool to go over the gold.

The above pictures are artificial light as the glitter showed up better in that for some reason. I took the ones below in natural light.

For my right hand I did 2 coats of the white polish and then topped with one layer of the Models Own glitter. It looks so Christmassy!! I love it!!

(Again, first pic in artificial light, no flash, and second pic in natural light)

Hello! And happy Halloween weekend 🙂

Today’s theme is ‘Inspired by a film’ and I had so much fun thinking of potential films. However, when I found out this mani fell on the weekend of Halloween I was decided – the Nightmare Before Christmas nails had to be done!

I’ve seen lots of NBC manis so these will be nothing new to anyone, but I love them. Fiddly but fun!

My right hand (below) is my bad hand and I need so much practice with my paintbrush. I am still so shaky!

Hope these made you smile!

WARNING: These nails have been tagged ‘fail’ as I am really disappointed with them. If they weren’t for the challenge, I would have taken them off and pretended they never happened!

The theme was delicate print and one of my friends on Twitter suggested a mehndi print. I adore mehndi patterns, they’re so intricate and beautiful so thought it would be a fun challenge. IT WAS NOT FUN. I have never been so full of rage whilst doing a manicure! It kept going wrong and the end product makes me sad! Massive nail fail today.

In case you’re insane and want to copy this mani: I did 2 coats of nude polish and a layer of top coat. I then used a paintbrush and Barry M ‘Mushroom’ to do the pattern.

I will no doubt have another go at this as I hate not being able to do something and I think if I do perfectly it that it could look absolutely beautiful.

Tomorrow is tribal print, which I’ve never tried before. I’m hoping that will go better than today!

Good afternoon!

Flowers was today’s theme. I’ve done roses on this blog already so I thought I would try something I’ve never done before. I love sunflowers anyway but looking at pictures of them on Google became almost hypnotic…go look for yourself and you’ll see what I mean!

I did 2 layers of nude polish (Rimmel’s French Ivory) and then used Barry M’s Mushroom polish to do circles in the corner of each nail. I then used a thin paintbrush and a bright yellow polish (Miss Sporty 301) to do the petals.

Then I used my spotting tool to paint the seeds on. I used the same mushroom polish but mixed in some black polish so the seeds were slightly darker.

I mixed the yellow polish with Nails Inc ‘InStyle Orange’ to do the detailing on the petals.

A layer of top coat and I am done! Really pleased with how these turned out, very summery and cheerful.

Tomorrow is delicate print and I can honestly say I have no idea what to do!! Should be interesting…

Today’s challenge theme was ‘polka dots’. As I’d already done basic spots the other day for the rainbow theme, I wanted to do something a bit different.

I did a nude base coat (Rimmel French Ivory) and then used a spotting tool to do dots of various sizes over all nails, overlapping some spots as I went. There are too many colours to list but if you desperately want to know any, just let me know 🙂

This mani looks a lot better in natural light, but it was so cloudy here the pictures don’t really do it justice. I would love to do this again, but next time I’ll try keeping it to more pastel colours as I think it’d look more subtle. This kind of reminds me of party balloons for some reason!

I hope you liked today’s manicure. Tomorrow is stripes. And I have an idea…!
