The slogan of my blog might as well be “…I don’t even *like* blue nail varnish!” If you’ve seen my huge nail varnish sort and destash video you will have witnessed my utter confusion at how I’ve managed to accumulate such a large amount of blue nail varnishes when I (claim that I) don’t even like blue nail varnish on me. So this cobalt nail varnish comparison post is a bit of a shock to me too!
Gold Gradient Nail Art
I missed Nail Art Sunday as I was absolutely shattered: I’ve been away at Creamfields (a music festival in the north of England) working so didn’t really get a weekend. But here we are, a day late!
I decided to do a gradient for this week’s nail art as I think gradients are a fairly simple way to make your nails stand out. I used a white base coat by Natural Collection. I find it hard to find a good white nail varnish but this one is pretty opaque and dries really quickly so it’s my go to white at the moment. I then sponged a glittery gold onto my tips: I used Collection ‘Shimmy Shake’.
I went against tradition and used Essie’s ‘Good To Go’ topcoat as my Seche Vite has run out. Now I remember why I never use it! It’s nowhere near as shiny, was really runny and didn’t dry quickly at all. Half an hour after I’d finished my nails I was still able to dent the polish with my nail: not good! I have already re-ordered Seche Vite so I don’t have to be without it. I will never forsake you again!
Lac Attack Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes
This stunning nail polish is the beautifully bright Lac Attack Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. This is a clear-based polish with varying sizes of amazing glitter in orange, yellow, red and gold. I am in love with the colour combination here. Also, full disclosure, I have never really seen the appeal of bar glitter but I LOVE it in this.
Collection 2000 ‘Starlet’ Nail Varnish
Yes, I am *still* ploughing through the Collection 2000 nail art competition prize, they seem to be never ending. I think I’ve liked every single colour I won so far and this one is no exception.
Collection 2000 BMX Bandit
This is another lovely Collection 2000 polish that I didn’t think I was going to like…but that has proved me wrong. Blue polish isn’t one of my favourites. I don’t know why I just don’t ever feel drawn towards blue so I wasn’t particularly excited about trying this. But this is an interesting cornflower blue with a slight purple tint that gives it something extra.
Collection 2000 is perfect in 2 coats, and has quite a shiny finish but these photos show the manicure topped with Seche Vite.
(EDIT Feb ’16: It looks like this nail polish is no longer available but you can see the current nail varnish range HERE)
SWATCH: Collection 2000 ‘All That Jazz (50)’
I am not usually a big fan of silver nail varnish as I think it looks a bit… teenage. But this surprised me. It has an almost foil-like finish and has a hint of purple mixed in with the silver that makes it a bit more grown up and classy.
Like all Collection 2000 polishes, this had full coverage in 2 coats and dried really quickly.
Collection 2000 ‘Neon Art’
This is polish #5 from the Collection 2000 nail art competition prize and has become another firm favourite. This is a tropical pink creme polish with a slight neon tint to it. It is perfect for summer (which apparently arrived in London today – finally!)
Collection 2000 ‘Look At Me’
This is polish number 4 from my Collection 2000 competition win. And it is the one I was most excited about trying.
