As my nail varnish collection expands it gets harder to find polishes that catch my eye because they’re different to anything else I have. I thought this would be a little bit similar to Models Own ‘Grace Green’ (review here: http://talontedlex.co.uk/post/35285122525 …oh how I miss my talons…)
But it’s a lighter, more minty colour. It’s still a nice unusual version on the pastels which are everywhere. It’s good to see something a bit different.
If you haven’t tried Kiko polishes, I highly recommend them: only £3.90, great colours and good formulas.
Another polish from the beautiful a-england ‘The Legend’ collection. This one is a glorious emerald green that, depending on the light, has a blue or gold tint and a true holographic shimmer running through it.
Just like the other polishes in this collection, this could have been a one-coater but I am a creature of habit and did two. Topped with Seche Vite, although it’s shiny and sparkley without.
When The Legends collection from A-england was released I was supposed to be on a no buy month, but I was born on St George’s day so I saw it as a sign that I should get them :)
This is Saint George, a beautiful navy/emerald with holographic shimmer to it. The full holo spectrum isn’t as strong in this one as others from the collection, but the blue and green tones are so pretty by themselves that I can’t complain.
These polishes have so much pigment to them that they could be one coaters if you wanted, but this is two thin coats topped with Seche Vite. I often find that holos get bald spots and the brush drags the colour with it, but these are very easy to apply.
Lex :)
P.S. I vaguely remember blogging about this before but couldn’t see it on a quick glance at my archive so you’re getting it again!
This is from the OPI Germany collection (I love the name!). This is a greeny-yellow toned shimmery polish. It is so unusual, I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not for a long time. But I think I’m falling on the side of ‘like’. It feels perfect for spring.
This is from the 2012 Essie ‘Stylenomics’ collection. It is a lovely dark green with hints of grey. It is interesting enough to make it look less goth-like, but dark enough to still be vampy. I like it!
This was perfect coverage in 2 coats, topped with Seche Vite.
I bought this polish ages ago but took so long to get round to swatching it that I forgot how pretty it looked. I think I first picked it up hoping that it was a Chanel ‘Peridot’ dupe.
And I was pleasantly surprised! It’s one of the best dupes I’ve seen for the Chanel beauty. It’s a gorgeous green/gold duochrome that just seems to glow. It is hard not to keep looking at it, as the colours flash and change every time you move.
If you have been lusting after the Chanel version but are low on funds then I would definitely recommend this.
I have had my eye on Rimmel’s ‘Block Your Green’ for a few months but kept talking myself out of buying it.
I’m still kind of undecided on it. It is almost a jelly which I wasn’t expecting: this is two layers and you can still see a hint of VNL. It was also a bit more teal-y in artificial light than it looks here, which I prefer. BUT it also has a lovely subtle vibrant blue shimmer to it that you can see in certain lights. Ahhh undecided…
My lovely fiance built me a light box and I am in love. I don’t have to wait for the 20 seconds in a British day where there is daylight to take photos! It is amazing!
This is ‘Aciiied’ by Models Own, a bright neon lime green that is as pretty as it is garish. I love bright colours and this is definitely a new favourite. This is two coats with a Seche Vite topcoat.
Today’s swatch is Gabrini’s excitingly-named ‘363’ (I HATE polishes with no names… such a missed opportunity for fun!)
So apparently Pantone’s colour of the year for 2013 is Emerald which is wonderful news as green is my all time favourite colour. This is a lovely dark green shimmer polish that has a beautiful glow in the light.
A very pretty acid green creme polish with a very subtle bright green shimmer that gives depth. This had really good coverage, you could probably get away with one clever coat but this is two.
I had never heard of Kiko polish before but I went shopping with some lovely nail ladies I met through Twitter and they kindly introduced me. They were all in the sale at £1.50 as well so I bought a few - well, it’d be rude not to really.
This is the first I’m swatching: a beautiful, bright green creme. This is two coats and a layer of Seche Vite. I love green polish so much and this one is such a great shade, I am thrilled to find it!
I’ve blogged about my love for Gabrini polishes before (Turkish brand that I discovered in a tiny beauty shop in North London). This polish has been in my collection since last summer and I have absolutely no idea why I haven’t worn it before now.
It’s a bright pastel green-yellow that is apparently called Midori. It’s a creme polish that needs 3 coats but dries with an unbelievable shine, even without topcoat.
If you see any of the Gabrini polishes anywhere I highly recommend them. I’m giving two of their glitters away in my 1000 follower giveaway actually, and they are beautiful. So good luck if you have entered!
Pastels are an eternal love of mine. They cheer me up and make me feel summery even when it has been raining (seemingly) forever.
This mint green is perfection. It only needs 2 good coats (rare for a pastel creme polish), dries well and resists chips very well considering it’s a fairly cheap brand. I also love that it looks almost neon in some lights, it’s so bright.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: Barry M, I salute you.
This is polish number 4 from my Collection 2000 competition win. And it is the one I was most excited about trying.
This is a bright, chartreuse (yellow-green) creme polish. I have been lusting after Nicki Minaj for OPI’s ‘Did It On ‘Em’ but, from seeing swatches online, I think this is a pretty good dupe.
The brush is really wide so application is really quick, but this did need 3 coats for total coverage (about average for Collection 2000 polishes from what I’ve seen). But each coat dries really quickly so it’s not a problem.
I am in love with this colour, I don’t want to take it off!
