I am a sucker for a gimmick. I am also a sucker for pastels. So when I heard that Models Own were doing a pastels collection that were scented I was all over it. Like spots on a dalmation.
This one is a baby yellow creme polish that isn’t as opaque as it looks. I wish I had done a white undies layer because this needed 3 generous coats. But it all smoothed out and dried fine with Seche Vite on top.
This polish didn’t smell like real bananas - even BETTER - it smelt like the foam penny sweetie bananas! Mmmm…I was craving pick ‘n’ mix every time I smelt my nails!
I actually realised after posting this that I already own a Models Own pastel yellow (lemon meringue) which is IDENTICAL to this but doesn’t smell of bananas so obviously I had to have both. I have a problem.
Has anyone tried any of the other polishes in this collection?
I bought this polish when Model’s Own were having their amazing sale months ago and I am regretting not trying this until now. It is so beautiful and I have wasted so much time when I could have been wearing it. *kicks self*
This is a soft, pale lilac creme polish. It only needed two coats and this is topped with Seche Vite.
Today’s swatch is Barry M’s ‘Berry Ice Cream’, a pretty lilac pastel polish.
It has quite a thin consistency, unlike some of their other pastels that I’ve tried. This was two thick coats, topped with Seche Vite.
It is a lot more vibrant than my other lilac pastels, but it has grown on me. And a lot of people have asked what it is - always a sign of a good polish!
I’m going to be adding some embellishments to this before I go out tonight as I get bored too easily with plain manis!
I love pastels. I know it’s Autumn and I’m meant to be reviewing oranges and reds and browns but come on! Look at this polish! It is just so pretty. Mint creme polish with blue flecked shimmer…*sigh*.
This is my first Illamasqua nail polish and I think I chose very well!
‘Wink’ is a very pale lilac creme from their 2010 Spring pastels collection. It’s a gorgeous lavender that applied so perfectly, something that’s unheard of with pastels. I only needed two coats and the first layer on my left hand was dry as I finished my right hand. Perfection.
I can tell I will be on the look out for more Illasmasqua nail varnishes in future!
Pastels are an eternal love of mine. They cheer me up and make me feel summery even when it has been raining (seemingly) forever.
This mint green is perfection. It only needs 2 good coats (rare for a pastel creme polish), dries well and resists chips very well considering it’s a fairly cheap brand. I also love that it looks almost neon in some lights, it’s so bright.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: Barry M, I salute you.
I had seen this glitter polish in the shops and thought it looked lovely but I wasn’t too convinced that it was that different to other glitters I had.
I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It is a lot less dense than it looks in the bottle: the first photo in the set is one coat, and the thumb photo is two coats. The glitter disperses well - I didn’t have to place any bits of glitter in order to make it look good, which is rare. The glitter is also more pastel-toned than other polishes I have seen - there are lovely baby pinks and oranges in there which make it less brash.
I’ve already prepared my foil for taking this off tomorrow!
(This glitter is worn over OPI’s ‘Y’All Come Back Ya Hear?’)
This is a polish from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection and I am in proper googly-eyed, undying love with it. It is a really unusual neutral shade, a pastel pink-grey that is so flattering and goes with everything.
As with most OPI’s, this only needed two coats and went on beautifully.
Pretty, pastel ice creams to match the lovely weather. I have wanted to do these for ages, but they don’t really work on squoval nails. These rounded nails are so fun!
