January 2016 Monthly Beauty and Lifestyle Favourites

Another month has rattled past with alarming speed. We are now a month into 2016. I don’t even know what to say about this. So let’s just get going into the January 2016 monthly beauty and lifestyle favourites, shall we?

So many goodies! Starting with the most exciting thing…

A flipping Macbook! Eeeeeeeeek! My old Macbook Air was dying a slow and painful death (it could not handle more than one tab being open at once and I had to store everything on an external hard drive or it just wouldn’t cooperate at all) so my husband bought me this beautiful creature for Christmas. I think he just wanted to stop me threatening to hurl my laptop through the nearest window. Not only is it rose gold and super slim and beautiful but it WORKS. I mean, I don’t want to brag but I can have *two* tabs open if I want! Maybe three if I’m feeling particularly crazy. But in all seriousness, if your job means being online all day, you need a laptop that can handle actually being used so this was very much needed and appreciated. You can check out all the specs HERE.

Various bits of jewellery from Forever 21 – I had a bit of an online jewellery splurge and these have been my most worn bits from that. A super delicate and pretty necklace (£3), a chevron gold (£3, pack of 2) and a tiny infinity-shaped gold midi ring (£3.50 for set of 12) which you can wear so it’s open or as a cross over the finger. Such good value for really pretty jewellery!

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking‘ by Susan Cain. After the whole Cry Wife thing, a lot of people recommended this book to me. It is seriously fantastic and has made me view myself in a completely new light. I get quite anxious in social situations, even when I know the people I’m with, and have always felt that I needed to hide and try to change that. From a very young age we’re taught that shy, quiet people should be encouraged to come out of their shell, make more of an effort, join in more. I was quite a confident child but as soon as I got to uni, my confidence plummeted (maybe a correlation between that and my rosacea starting?) This book discusses the topic in a really positive way, giving advice on how to cope if you are an introvert, or if you know someone that is, and why it’s not a negative thing – it just means you approach things differently.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in ‘Kooky’ – I had not tried MUA Luxe (the slightly more expensive version of MUA) but these matte liquid lipsticks called to me. The colour is a beautiful dark purple that is probably the vampiest shade I own – you can see me wearing it HERE and HERE. I love it! It’s not the longest lasting product but for the price I wasn’t expecting too much. It fades in the middle of the lips after eating but don’t bobble or flake so fade quite nicely and are easy to top up. If you are wanting to dip a toe in a more dramatic lip colour (so to speak) then these would be great as they’re so affordable. These are £3 and you can buy them HERE.

L’Oréal Paris False Lash Sculpt Mascara – You all know I love a gimmick and this mascara’s brush fits that description perfectly. You can have a look at the brush HERE, I’ll wait … Weird right? No bristles except on the top, weird triangle shape with section missing… Weird. BUT this little bad boy is bloody great. Not only does it do all the things a mascara should (lifts, fans out, defines) but it also tight-lines your eyes. If you haven’t heard of tight-lining it’s a wonderful way of making your eyes look more defined and your eyelashes more full. You would typically use an eyeliner to fill in the gaps at the root of your lashes BUT this mascara does it for you! You wiggle the brush into the roots as you would normally and the shape of the bristles means the product is applied to the skin at the root of the eyelashes. It somehow manages to do this without you getting mascara all over your eyelid as well. Magical. There’s a mini tutorial here if I’ve not explained that very well!

The Body Shop Red Musk Perfume Oil – I got this for Christmas and have not worn another perfume since, that’s how much I love it. I’m terrible at describing scents but according to their blurb it contains spiced musk, cinnamon and tobacco. Yum! I had never used a perfume oil before, but I’ve found that the scent sticks around for a lot longer than it does with some of my other regular perfumes. You can get it HERE.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream – I bought this in New York last year – it had won an Allure beauty award and I thought it sounded interesting. You can see the other bits I bought while over there HERE (drugstore) and HERE (Sephora). This is a beige-coloured thick cream moisturiser that offers the same benefits as a BB cream for the face: correcting, brightening and smoothing. This doesn’t give much colour but it gives a beautiful glow – which is just what I need at the moment with the weather being so grey and dull. Sadly, I’ve just tried to find an UK stockist and it looks like all Jergens products were pulled from the UK. Booooo!

Promises Promises ‘Rigel’ necklace – The final item I’ve been loving this month is another Christmas present. This beautiful necklace is from the incredible mind of Victoria Wyatt at Promises Promises. It’s made from copper, acrylic, wood and metallic suede *swoon*. You can see the necklace HERE but I would really recommend looking around at her other items as they are all beautiful.
