Dermalogica Facial At One New Change

For years I couldn’t trust anyone else around my face, worried that they’d use a product or a technique that would irritate my rosacea. But now that I’ve discovered that my super-sensitive, reactive skin can handle facials, there’s no stopping me! Read all about my MicroZone Dermalogica facial at One New Change* below…

I’m sure you’ve heard of Dermalogica – they’re famous for effective skincare that doesn’t waste time with overly complicated or pretty packaging. I personally love the way the products look: medicinal, serious, simple… all things that I want in my skincare.

I arrived at Dermalogica in One New Change (which is a great place to wander around by the way, lots of good shops and restaurants!) and had a quick wander round the small shop looking at the products. It turned out that one of the staff members had called in sick so they were a bit short staffed but Ladeane did a great job at keeping my treatment on track while also trying to help customers. We sat down to chat through my current skincare routine and problem areas. The 20 minute treatment was done in a kind of open pod in the middle of the shop which was a bit strange – you’re very aware that people could be peering over at you! However, as soon as the treatment started I felt relaxed and in safe hands. Ladeane explained every product and step she was taking while talking me through any issues with my skin and how to target them.

The one step I was slightly concerned with was the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant which is a manual exfoliator – as my skin has reacted badly to these types of exfoliators in the past I was still wary…but this felt like a very fine powder rather than having a gritty, harsh texture. Ladeane massaged my face very lightly and kept an eye on my redness to make sure there wasn’t a reaction. She then used very calming and  soothing products to ensure my skin stayed happy.

The products used in my Dermalogica facial are below. The steps were pre-cleanse (an oil to remove make up and dirt), ultracalming cleanser (a gel-cream that nourishes and soothes aggravated skin), daily microexfoliant, ultracalming mist (another soothing step that adds moisture, primes skin for the following products and feels incredible – I do love a good mist!), ultracalming serum concentrate (calms, defends and restores sensitive skin, apparently this is great for reduce itching and soreness during flare ups), barrier repair cream (a moisturising, calming step to help strengthen and protect the skin) and finally Ladeane applied the redness relief primer. This is designed to prime the skin for make up, provide SPF20 and is also green tinted to counteract redness, which made me feel a lot better about leaving the facial with no make up on as it really takes the edge off the redness. I have put a photo at the bottom of the post to show that my face wasn’t angry or super red after the facial, I am super impressed! The MicroZone Dermalogica facial is £20, you can get more info HERE. You could also pop in for a free face mapping session if you don’t know where to start with your skin care.

I’m trying out some of these products during April so I’ll update this blog post with my thoughts! You can read my review of the products HERE.

Have you tried anything by Dermalogica? What would you recommend?

Wow! Your skin looks amazing!! I keep searching for products that might work for me. I’ll have to put Dermalogica on the “try next” list. Do you use any prescription meds for rosacea?

Hello! I was so impressed with this facial, and the products I used afterwards. I don’t take any meds for rosacea, I used to use Rosex/Metrogel (when I was first diagnosed) but found it made my rosacea worse so I stopped using it.

I’ve been wanting a facial but worried for the same reasons as you – looks like I’ll have to give Dermalogica a try! I used to use them and I’ve used the microexfolliant for years, both pre- and post-rosacea with no adverse effects.

I think you’ll love it, especially if you’ve tried their products and got on well with them! Let me know if you try it 🙂

hi there! i just wanted to stop by and leave a note for you. the other day i was scrolling through facebook and saw a link for your article on rosasea and just decided to check it out. much to my surprise everything i read in your article, here on your site and on some other sites fit my skin issues. so today i called a dermatologist to get in to have my skin checked out. THANK YOU for sharing your story! i honestly thought i just had hypersensitive skin (which i do) but now i feel like there is an underlying cause for why my face flares up so intensely.
as for dermalogica that line is amazing. i’ve used their products off and on for 10 years and have never been disappointed! just started using the ultra calming cleanser again and my skin loves it. started with barrier repair again too which is great stuff. daily microfoliant rules as an exfoliator especially for us with sensitive skin.

Crystin this is amazing! This makes it all worth it: being scared to show my bare face, worrying about talking about my skin when it’s so nerve-wracking to draw attention to it. Even though rosacea is so common, it’s not well known at all so hopefully my blogs can help to raise awareness. Yay for finally working towards getting an answer to your skin troubles!
