Mani Monday: Seventeen Gel Colour

I haven’t done any nail art for a while and I’m really loving clashing colours at the moment so when these beauties arrived I had an idea that would perfectly marry the two. So here’s my dotty manicure using the Seventeen Gel Colour polishes*.

Seventeen Gel Colour

These polishes are one of the new genres of polish that have been popping up all over (some of which I’ve reviewed on the blog recently). They’re like regular polish in that you don’t need to cure them under a lamp and can be taken off with regular nail varnish remover. But, similar to gels, they are very shiny and designed to be more long lasting than your typical nail polish.

The Seventeen Gel Colour polishes come in a wide range of colours but who doesn’t need another bold, classic red and an obnoxiously girly pink that would look amazing with a summer tan? The shades are called ‘Red Soul‘ and ‘Pink Flamingo‘ and I love them both! The caps are a little unwieldy for me (I prefer a dinky lid as I find the grip is easier) and the formula was slightly thick. This did mean that the polish was easy to build to full opacity but I found it meant the polish did start to wear around the tips after about 5 days, which still isn’t something to be sniffed at. I will probably add some nail varnish thinner to them to tone them down a little and see if that helps. The pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion: a good-sized brush, a smooth and very shiny finish, and a quick drying time. Plus, at £3.99 you could pick up a few season-appropriate colours without it breaking the bank.

I decided to do a dotty manicure with a difference. I think it would have looked better if all nails were pink on top of red (like my middle and little finger) but I still love the way this came out. It kind of reminds me of screen-printing, it has that imperfect stamping look. I painted my nails with two coats of Essie ‘Private Weekend’, then used a dotting tool to make the spots. Topped off with my trusty Seche Vite – of course.

I hope you like this manicure. Are you more of a red or pink manicure kind of person? Let me know in the comments below!

Love it! Do you find that your nail shape affects the strength / susceptibility to breakage?
