My Blogging Equipment: Cameras, Lenses and Laptops…

I recently bought some amazing lenses for my camera and wanted to tell you about them but thought a whole blog post just about the lenses might be a bit dull…so I decided to do a post about all my blogging equipment! From laptop to cameras to lenses and all the bits in between.

First up is my MacBook, my pride and joy. My husband bought me this for Christmas as my old laptop was so slow I could only have 1 tab open at a time. When you spend 14+ hours a day on your computer, you need it to work! I didn’t even realise Apple did a gold MacBook but isn’t it beautiful? I’m still terrified I’ll break it at any moment, it’s so slim and dainty!

The only issue with my Macbook being so slim is that there are no USB ports… which means that I need 2 cables to get files on or off my laptop (mostly used for transferring files from my SD card). Before people tell me, I know there is an official Apple contraption for this. I KNOW. I didn’t know when I bought these, but I know now.

Although it’s not the end of the world that there are no USB ports, it can be frustrating as the port for the external transfer is also the port for the charger so you have to choose which you need to use more! The below is the card reader I use, and below that is the external USB port (this isn’t the same model but is similar).

I originally bought the Canon G7x because I wanted to get into vlogging and heard amazing things about this from Mikhila. However, since I’ve bought it it has become my most used, day to day blogging camera. Its video capabilities are incredible: great auto-focus, it finds light where there is none, along with a really clear picture. It’s dinky enough to fit in my handbag, has a flip up screen and a touch screen. I cannot rave about this camera enough, I wish I’d bought it sooner! I did buy a spare battery recently as vlogging can obviously drain it faster than just pictures (e.g. we went to France for a week for my birthday and I was vlogging every day and on our last day in Paris my battery died… which is still pretty good going I think!)

The Nikon D5200 was my original blogging camera and I still love it, but it’s just so bulky that it’s hard to use anywhere out of the house. It does have video capability but the autofocus noise is so loud, I found I could only use it for videos with music or voiceovers. Apparently there are other lenses you can get that reduce the noise but they are *insert money-with-wings emoji* . This camera has now been discontinued and replaced with the Nikon D5500.

I actually hadn’t been using this camera much anymore until I bought the amazing lenses below…

I had admired the photos of the lovely Trona for a long time and finally asked her what kit she used and she mentioned the below lenses (among other things) and when I saw that they were so cheap I was sold. You can find the Polaroid 4-Piece Close Up Camera Lens Filter Kit HERE. There are 4 lenses that range from +1 to +10, depending on how much you want to zoom in on your pictures. They just screw on to the front of your existing camera lens. For my every day blogging I tend to use +4 – it gives me that lovely out-of-focus background that we all love so much.

What are you blogging tech must haves? I’m in the market for some lights that aren’t huge, are easy to put up and take down, and don’t take up too much room so leave your recommendations in the comments below please!
