FRIDAY FAVES: The Holiday Edition

It feels so strange to be writing my Friday Faves because I got back from my holiday on Wednesday and therefore today feels like Tuesday. Plus this weekend is a bank holiday weekend in the UK so I’ll be even more confused about what day it is! But anyway… this edition of Friday Faves is heavily influenced by my holiday: the beauty bits I used, the books I read, plus a bonus suggestion if – like me – you go all heart-eye-emoji over stationery!

Friday Faves: the holiday edition

Don’t forget to let me know your Friday Faves in the comments below, or come natter to me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!

I spoke about the new releases from the GOSH A/W ’17 range HERE, but these are my two favourites after testing a few things out on my holiday. The GOSH Lumi Drops in ‘rose gold’* is such a beautiful, soft blusher-highlighter hybrid that gives a really pretty healthy glow to the skin. I apply a pea-sized amount to the tips of my fingers and pat it onto the apples of my cheeks and cheekbones. I knew from my first go with the GOSH Brow Shape & Fill* that it would be a new favourite and it hasn’t disappointed. It’s a great grey-brown shade that suits my hair colour and the angled shape of the pencil means you can create natural looking brows quickly and easily.

Finding a bronzer that works for fair skinned blondes is quite tricky as you either end up looking orange or a bit grubby. But The Body Shop Honey Bronzer ’01’ is perfect: a great cool-toned shade that is subtle enough to give you a lovely glow without it looking OTT. Bravo, The Body Shop!

I know that anti-perspirant isn’t very sexy, but the Dove Pear & Aloe Vera anti-perspirant* is not only great but also smells divine – my husband thought I had lit a candle when he walked into the bedroom and caught a whiff of it! Plus it’s half price at Superdrug at the moment so you can stock up.

My other fragrance Friday Faves item (yay alliteration!) is the ridiculously summery Roger & Gallet Fleur De Figuier. If you like fig then this perfume is made for you, it’s just so fresh and pretty. PLUS all Roger & Gallet products are 1/3 off on Escentual so if you have had your eye on them for a while you can take advantage! I have the ‘fresh fragrant water’ which is the cheaper version that’s not as long lasting as the perfume, but the perfume is also in the sale so you can choose which you prefer. I find that my version is a great handbag scent that I can just apply as and when, so it really suits me. In the photo below it looks brand new, but it’s actually about half-empty (half-full?) which shows how much I love it! Side note: the matching hand and nail balm is also DREAMY.

I take some of the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Monodose eye make up remover vials with me every time I go away because they are so flipping useful. Instead of having to take my full bottle of eye make up remover I can just pop one of these open to soak a cotton pad and I’m away. Such a great idea! (Also there’s 20% off them – along with everything else – on the Escentual website until the end of the month, so now’s a good time to try them!)

It’s been a while since I put some books in my Friday Faves, I’ve had a bit of a bad run recently with a lot of truly terrible or disappointing ones so I am thrilled to have read these two. The first book in this instalment of my Friday Faves is The Cyber Effect by Mary Aiken. This is such an interesting and thought-provoking book and one that I’ll definitely be passing on to my husband as I know he’ll love it. It covers every part of existing online and how those things affect us psychologically and socially: cyberbullying, porn, doctor Google, the deep web… if those kind of things are of interest to you then you’ll love it.

The second book is one I started on the flight home and am already about 2/3 through: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. I watched the film a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised – I had very low expectations as I thought it was going to be a poor version of A Series Of Unfortunate Events (which I LOVE) – and my little sister had lent me the book. I’m really enjoying it, although I’m not sure who it’s aimed at, as it’s a little complicated for young readers (lots of time travel and potentially gruesome descriptions of the peculiar children) but it’s not complicated/gruesome enough for older readers, if that makes sense? But I am enjoying it and think I’ll borrow the others from my sister next time she’s back in the country!

If you haven’t heard of or experienced Kikki K yet then I am jealous for the excitement you are about to experience. If you like stationery, beautiful ‘things’ for the home, and if greeting cards get you all in a tizz then Kikki K will be your new best friend. I went into their Covent Garden shop with Hayley a few weeks ago and we were both powerless to resist picking up lots of bits… everything is just so pretty! Please send my apologies to your bank manager.

What are your Friday Faves? Let me know your new discoveries, old favourites that you’ve dug out, or trusted staples. I want to hear all of them! Catch up with my previous Friday Faves HERE.
