Oriflame Illuminating Pearls
A few weeks ago I went to my first bloggers party, held by Scarlett London. There were a few different brands there to talk to bloggers and demonstrate their products. One of them was Oriflame, who I’d never heard of. Their products looked very good though and I was particularly interested in the Illuminating Pearls. I keep getting incredibly tempted by the Guerlain Meteorites but end up talking myself out of them. I was hoping that these would be a lower budget stepping stone to them.
I’m afraid I’m still on the look out. I really didn’t like the packaging. My usual test is ‘how would I feel getting this out of my handbag on the tube?’ This looks quite cheap, it actually reminds me of a pretend make up set I had as a child. I don’t know whether it’s the colours or the flower design on the top, but I’m not sold on it. The physical design of the packaging is good, the closing cap seems secure and I wouldn’t be worried about the top coming loose.
(EDIT Feb 2016: It looks like the packaging how now changed and I really like it! It looks a lot more expensive and classy so perhaps they’ve listened to feedback… You can see it HERE)
The beads are a mixture of pink, green, gold, white and purple. Each pearl colour is designed to have a different effect on the skin.
- Purple – brightens the complexion
- Green – counteracts redness
- Pink – makes skin look more even
- White – illuminates by highlighting
- Gold – increases radiance
I did think that my skin looked more even and highlighted after using this powder but it also looked really glittery. Every time I looked in the mirror it was all I could see. I wanted this to look natural, that blogger cliche of ‘my skin but better’ and this was where it fell down. It looked like I was wearing a highlighting powder.
I think I will still wear this perhaps on a night out when I don’t mind looking a bit more ‘done’ but it’s not an every day look for me.
