Essie Winter 2016 Review

You should all know by now that I’m a total Essie addict. They’re my favourite nail polishes by far: great colours, long-lasting and quick drying….what more could you need? I’ve been playing around with the new Essie Winter 2016 collection* and it’s pretty flipping Christmassy.

The Essie Winter 2016 collection is inspired by the swinging sixties in London, so all of the names (in true Essie fashion) are tongue-in-cheek puns related to that time. I remember being a little disappointed with the Essie Winter 2015 collection as it didn’t feel Christmassy to me… but this year’s release is much more festive.

Go With The Flowy‘ is described as a cloud-like dove grey, and has a very pretty light blue shimmer running through it. This polish took 3 coats for full coverage which is rare for Essie and is quite top-coat-thirsty: the first coat of Seche Vite didn’t stay shiny. Without the shimmer this would be quite a plain pale grey/white but the glitter makes it feel very Christmassy.

Oh Behave!‘, which Essie calls a ‘minx peach frost’…probably the strangest nail polish description I’ve heard! I definitely agree with ‘peach frost’ – this is such a beautiful pearly polish with a gold glow. This only needed 2 coats, plus it dries without ugly streaks which is rare for a frosty polish. This is a little too warm for my skintone, it was on the verge of giving me the dreaded spam-hands… but it’s so pretty that I am going to wear it regardless!

Getting Groovy‘ is described as a metallic gold palladium (apparently palladium is a rare and luxe silver-white metal. Everyday’s a school day!) I love that this is more of a muted metallic rather than a gaudy one. It looks so smooth and, like ‘Oh Behave!’, the application doesn’t leave ugly streaks in your manicure. I love gold polish and this might be my new favourite as it’s not too yellow, due to the silver blend.

Party On A Platform‘ is a London garnet red. This is very festive red but also a very common shade. I have many other colours just like this one in my collection, including similar ones from Essie. This only needed 2 coats, was a dream to apply, and dries to a ridiculously high shine.

Ready to Boa‘ is a glistening bronze mahogany which is the most perfect description of this beautiful shade. I have nothing else like this in my collection, it’s a gorgeous vampy but warm polish that really surprised me. Even better? This could probably have been a one coater with careful application.

It’s very pretty in indirect light, but flipping heck when you get it into direct light? LOOK AT IT.

Satin Sister‘ is described as a sleek ebony peacock blue. This is such a dreamy teal-blue that is an unusual but welcome addition to a festive collection. This applies so well, I was worried that it would be streaky but it it so smooth and dries with a lovely high shine.

Which is your favourite polish from the Essie Winter 2016 collection? What are your go-to colours for winter?
