I have been obsessed with nail varnish for such a long time and I still get a little flurry of excitement when I discover a new brand or formula. But when I first stumbled across Floss Gloss I knew it was going to be a company to watch. Their Instagram account is bright, bold, and a little bit filthy – what more do you need?
Floss Gloss started when the founders (Aretha and Janine) struggled to find the unusual nail colours they wanted. Aretha started making her own and selling them to her friends at art school and they soon realised that they had a great business idea. Floss Gloss was born!
I had my eye on their polishes from afar and as soon as I heard that they were coming to the UK, I knew I needed to get them swatched so I could show you how beautiful they are. I was sent quite a few shades but for this post I have picked three that are perfect for spring. In all of the photos below, I used the Floss Gloss top coat (yes, I branched out from my usual Seche Vite! I’m growing as a person…) which gives a great smooth and plumped up finish, but isn’t quite as fast-drying as SV.
Dinge is a lovely peach-toned nude that only needed two coats for full opacity. This colour would go with absolutely every outfit and is a lovely palette cleanser after the rich reds, greens, and glitters we’ve all been overdosing on over Christmas.
Palazzo Pleasures seems to be a very popular shade from the reviews I’ve read and it isn’t hard to see why. We all know that I love anything with a grey tone to it, and this modern lilac/blush/greige colour is just dreamy. It reminds me of Models Own ‘Utopia’ which was one of my all-time favourite shades but is now discontinued, so I was very happy to find this replacement! This was another two coater.
*SWOON* This polish is unbelievable. I have such a huge collection of polishes so it’s very rare that I find a shade that isn’t duplicated somewhere in my stash, but Mauve Wives is such a unique colour. It’s described as a muted violet wine creme polish which I think is perfect. This could have been a one-coater but I’m a stickler for tradition and usually do two anyway!
In case you need any more reasons to treat yourself, all of the Floss Gloss polishes are vegan and also 7-free, which means they’re free from the 7 big chemicals: DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP) or Xylene. Thumbs up all round!
So which is your favourite colour in this post? Let me know and I’d love it if you also told me your favourite lesser-known polish brands in the comments below. I’m always looking for my next nail varnish obsession!
