FRIDAY FAVES: Netflix, NARS & A Novel

It’s Friday! This week has been so manic and I feel like I squeezed all of my work into Wednesday and Thursday so I’m shattered. It’s been a great week but I’m definitely ready for a long weekend away. I have some pretty great Friday Faves this week, most of which are lifestyle-y which is unusual for me!

GOOD WEEK: Today we are heading off to Scotland to go to a wedding on the Isle of Arran and then we’re going to hang out in Edinburgh for a few days. I am so excited! My husband knows Edinburgh quite well (he’s a Fringe veteran) but if you have any recommendations for things to do/gluten free yumminess/interesting things to see, please let me know!

BAD WEEK: This week I managed to miss an entire delicious breakfast at The Ivy because I went all the way to the one in Chelsea instead of the one in Soho! So not only was I super annoyed with myself for being so stupid, but I was then frantic and sweaty from dashing across London, AND I was also starving! I arrived 10 minutes before end of the event but I’m glad I eventually got there as now I get to try the SmoothSkin IPL device – it takes awhile to see results but I’ll keep you updated on how I get on!

Let’s jump into my Friday Faves…

‘Casting JonBenét’ – We all know by now that I’m a huge true crime fan, and the JonBenét Ramsay case is probably one of the most famous unsolved murder cases in modern history. As members of the public are auditioning for parts in the dramatisation of the murder, they are interviewed about what they think really happened and I found it absolutely fascinating. It’s an unusual film that combines a documentary, dramatisation, and conspiracy theory round up. It’s not trying to solve the case, it’s more of a commentary on rumours, modern America, and how the media blurs the lines between truth and hype. I’d say that it’s aimed at people who already know the story as it doesn’t cover all the details, assuming a lot of prior audience knowledge. You can watch it on Netflix.

Friday Faves: If you love True Crime and are as fascinated by the JonBenet case as me then this is a must-see!

NARS Eyeliner Stylo in ‘Blue Bayou’ – I actually picked this up in TK Maxx and was gobsmacked. I had no idea there were so many great brands in there (although I did have to rummage to find make up that wasn’t absolutely ruined by dirty fingers and broken packaging). This beautiful shade is not available in the UK anymore, but if you’re looking for a lovely liquid eyeliner and you sometimes struggle with longevity or the feathering/uneven texture of eyelids that aren’t those of a 12 year old, then this is one to check out. It didn’t budge all day (and I have very watery eyes!) and even left a tiny bit of a stain when I removed it. You can see me wearing it HERE.

I’ve just finished a book that’s been recommended to me by so many people – it’s called ‘You’ by Caroline Kepnes. It’s always listed in the same breath as Gone Girl and I can kind of see why: It’s creepy, it’s graphic, it’s a bit far-fetched. The book definitely needs a trigger warning – it’s a book about a male stalker who is terrifyingly manipulative and delusional. It has violence, graphic descriptions of sex, and psychological abuse so bear that in mind. I don’t think it’s as good as ‘Gone Girl’, but I found myself looking forward to going to bed so that I could read it, which is always a sign that it needed to be included my Friday Faves!

Diet Cig are my current musical obsession, especially the song linked below. I listened to this on repeat for about 3 hours, which is something that has always annoyed people about me: I become utterly obsessed with one song and listen to it over and over and over! But it’s such a fun song that’s great to dance it out to and belt at the top of your lungs when you need a release. Give it a go!

And that’s your lot – a pretty varied Friday Faves this week. Don’t forget to let me know what you’ve been loving this week, and any overall recommendations for me. Especially if it’s music, books, documentaries – I can’t get enough of them!

If you occasionally cheat on dairy you really need to try the local cheeses on Arran. It’s so good my sister in Ukraine had my mum get her some!!

I love love love Arran cheese although I found out recently that they’re not made on Arran, it’s just a marketing thing! Shocking!

That documentary sounds really interesting. I might have to give it a go. I was looking through the makeup at TK MAXX a few weeks ago and although there were some fabulous brands all of the products were opened, tested or damaged. Not ideal!
