We all know that I flipping love essie nail varnishes and have done for a really long time. So you can probably imagine just how excited I was to get my paws on the beautiful essie Summer 2017 collection*. PLUS those who get to the bottom of the blog post can enter a competition to win the entire collection. Good luck!
This year’s Essie Summer 2017 collection takes inspiration from Parisian patisseries, places which are basically heaven on earth! It’s all pretty pastels with a dusting of shimmer and a flipping great metallic thrown in there for good measure. I’m really impressed by this collection and can see a few that I hope will make it into the permanent collection. Take a look below and let me know your favourite shade, and don’t forget to enter the competition!
Swatches! Go go go!
When I first picked up ‘sweet soufflé‘, I thought it was going to be a replacement for ‘private weekend‘ which is a great white polish, but on closer inspection it has a really unusual pinky-peach glow to it. Pure white polishes can be a bit ‘I painted my nails with Tippex during geography’, but this added shimmer makes it infinitely more wearable. The formula is a little thin and streaky, so this needed three coats for full opacity.
Let’s have a look at the close up to see that shimmer…
‘blue-la-la‘ is a very pretty pastel sky blue. I thought it looked similar to ‘saltwater happy‘ but once on the nails it’s a bit more vibrant and less lavender. I think I prefer this to the more pastel, baby blue shades I have in my collection, it’s a very pretty colour. This was another polish that needed three coats to get rid of all bald spots.
‘baguette me not‘ is exactly my kind of nail colour: a pretty pastel with a hint of grey to make it a little bit grungey and less sickly sweet. It’s a soft lilac with no shimmer and I absolutely love it. It stops just short of being too girly and cloying, and just looks modern and fresh. This was a two coater.
Oh how I love it when Essie do metallic polishes! This lilac-silver metallic is flipping beautiful and I don’t think I have anything similar in my collection, so I’m very pleased to add ‘s’il vous play‘ to my stash. This only needed two thin coats but, as it’s a frosty metallic, you have to be careful with application to avoid brush lines in the finish. If you have ridged nails, I’d also recommend a ridge-filling basecoat to give your nails a smooth canvas as metallics can pick up any flaws in your nails.
I love this shade but it kind of feels like ‘éclair my love‘ has fallen into the wrong collection… is it just me? All of the others are patisserie-inspired, pretty and pastel and then you have a bold lobster red just nestled in there… strange. However it’s very pretty and only needed two coats, so I’ll let it slide.
And last but not least is ‘fondant of you‘. This is another polish that I immediately held up next to another in my collection to compare it. If you have ‘tart deco’, this is very similar tonally but ‘fondant of you’ has a gold/pink shimmer in it. If you already own ‘tart deco’ (a cult essie shade) then you can probably skip this one, but if you’ve been thinking about adding it to your collection but like a little bit of sparkle then maybe this will be more ‘you’. This was a two coater.
Essie Summer 2017 is such a beautiful collection and you can win the entire thing! Whoop! Click the link below to read the T&Cs and enter. Good luck!

It’s so hard to choose between these colours! They’re all fabulous! It’s definitely between blue-la-la and baguette-me-not for me.
I think my fave is definitely the baguette-me-not. Ive not had a colour like that before and it’s beautiful so I’d love to try it! Xx
Ooh it’s tough but I’d say Fondant of You, such a fab collection!
s’il vous plait is an absolute corker of a shade!! What a beauty!
The colours are all amazing although I agree the red seems out of place. I think “baguette me not” is my favourite though.

Fondant of you for me!
Love the look of all the colours but especially baguette me not!
I’d wear all of these shades, but if I had to pick just one, it’d be ‘blue-la-la‘. With ‘baguette me not’ a close second… All lovely, though.
My favourite is Fondant Of You.
I LOVE Sweet Soufflé. And I think you’re finally going to have to admit you like blue varnish! Lol. X

Haha, it’s getting to that point isn’t it? I feel like I’m betraying everything I stand for!
Fondant of you is my favourite. They all look great though!
baguette me not is cute 🙂
Love the sweet soufflé‘
Tricky decision but sweet soufflé is definitely my favourite, as I love a white that has a hint of something else (especially shimmer). I totally agree with you on the Tippex nails look of some white polishes!
‘Fondant of you‘ & ‘blue-la-la’ are tied favourites for me – but they’re all lovely!
I agree with you about ‘éclair my love‘ – it’s a beautiful shade but it doesn’t seem to fit with the collection 🙂
Beautiful collection. I think ‘baguette me not‘ and ‘fondant of you‘ are my favourites, with ‘baguette me not‘ just coming out on top.
Baguette me not is perfect in pink
Blue-la-la is pretty much the perfect blue! Possibly the best one, even better than my staple blue from Maybelline ‘uptown blue’.
Your nails are also the most wonderful shape, perfect for nail swatches ❤️
Love these
I love Baguette Me Not! I’ve been looking for a new lilac shade 🙂
Sweet Soufflé OMGEE is a superb shimmery white, perfect for a delicate Manicure (Weddings).
Lovely, fresh appearance, with a twist on the standard white nails.

Definitely sil vous play…
Baguette me not is my absolute favourite, it’s the perfect millennial pink shade, or is it purple?! It’s a stare at all day kind of shade!
metallic lilac shimmery silvery gorgeousness has won me all the way over. I’ve got a peachy gold version like that (Tom Ford) but lilac and silver, it’s all my dreams
Blue-la-la and s’il vous plai are my favourites!
I’d like a Sweet Soufflé, S’il Vous Play!
If your ultimate goal is to reconcile me with dazzling colours, I’d say it’s working just fine.

Sweet Soufflé is gorgeous, but S’il Vous Play has to be my favourite. That lilac silver combo is stunning!
