As we speak I am on holiday, visiting my parents in France. I say ‘holiday’, but when you’re a freelancer it can be very difficult to switch off so I’ve still got my nose in my laptop for most of the day while I’m here. The only difference is that there’s a dog at my feet and lots of free wine… which is pretty much the dream! Anyway, enough rambling – are you ready for some Friday Faves?
As I mentioned in my last Friday Faves post, I have been taking a bit of a backseat from blogging recently as I’m focusing on my new Pinterest management business. It’s going really well, I’ve been setting up a few new clients this week which is always fun (no, YOU’RE a geek!). If you, or someone you know, needs any support with Pinterest let me know HERE. I’d love to help you out! You can follow me on Pinterest here if that’s your thing (and if it’s not, WHY NOT IT’S GREAT)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have seen the news that the Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker has finally been caught, 40 years later. Bizarrely, on the day he was arrested I had finally downloaded ‘I’ll Be Gone In The Dark’ by Michelle McNamara after wanting to read it for ages. An investigation into the crimes by a true crime journalist, who sadly died before the GSK/EAR/ONS was caught. If you’re a fan of true crime, this is an absolute must-read – especially now that you can read it with the hindsight of knowing who he was and how he managed to get away with his crimes for so long.
My iPhone had been on its last legs for about six months and I finally upgraded to a Google Pixel 2. I am over the moon! The storage is massive, the camera is incredible (see the example selfie below!), the battery life is unimaginable (especially after being used to an iPhone that would lose battery just from me picking it up!). I was nervous about moving from iOS to Android but it’s been okay… I’m still getting used to the different keyboard so I apologise for any weird autocorrect comments you may receive on social media!
Even when I'm on holiday I still wear make up, which some people think is absurd (especially my dad who, even after raising 3 daughters, still can't understand the hours spent in the bathroom!) As my parents live in a very rural area of France, I leave behind my blue lipsticks and glittery eyeshadow and instead opt for glowy skin and light coverage. Luckily my skin is always very well behaved here: a combination of no stress, good sleep, fruit and veg, and freedom from east London's horrible hard water 🙌 Do you wear make up on holiday? . ALSO I replaced my dying iPhone with a sparkly new Pixel 2 last week and LOOK how good the camera is!? I'm still getting used to android but so far I'm very impressed! . BASE – @itcosmetics CC+ Cream and @lorealmakeup True Match combined. @bourjois_uk Poudre De Riz. EYES – @itcosmetics Superhero mascara (first time trying it and I'm very impressed so far 👏). @pixibeauty Get The Look 'ItsEyeTime' eyeshadow palette.
Last week, Hayley and I took a mini-break to Margate to visit Kirsty and it was so much fun! I’d never been to Margate, which is crazy as I love the seaside – I think it gets overlooked by Londoners in favour of Brighton but I really recommend it. It’s cute, quirky, there are lots of independent businesses, and you step out of the train station and the sea is right THERE – unlike Brighton! We ate chips on the beach, had delicious ice-creams, drank cocktails in the sun (I hid under a huge umbrella – standard!) and had an enormous catch up. It was brilliant. If you’d like to visit Margate, Kirsty has a beautiful AirBnB that we stayed in that is the definition of #interiorgoals, take a look HERE.
I’m a picky woman when it comes to mascara and the observant among you will know that I’ve rarely strayed from Maybelline Lash Sensational in the past year… but I’ve been wowed by the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara*. It can go from naturally fluttery and soft with just one layer, or can be built up to more dramatic in a few non-gloopy coats, it doesn’t end up all over my face (even with my watery eyes and oily skin), it doesn’t aggravate my sensitive eyes, and it is really easy to remove. I’m not sure if it’s going to replace my trusty Maybelline just yet, but it’s a worthy contender.
As it’s Mental Health Awareness Week, my husband’s book ‘How To Survive The End Of The World’ is currently reduced on Amazon and Waterstones. I know that I also included it in my last Friday Faves, but I genuinely think it’s a brilliant, helpful, and funny book that you’d really enjoy.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of Friday Faves, as always I’d love to hear what things/places/people have been making you happy recently. Let me know in the comment section below, or come and natter on Instagram!
