My neck is currently in spasm so this blog post may be a little more brief than my usual Friday Faves, but I have some amazing bits and pieces that I wanted to chat to you about. In related news, would it be weird to include Deep Freeze Cold Patches in my weekly favourites…? Asking for a friend.
Let’s get going with my Friday Faves!
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been waiting for the return of ‘Queer Eye‘ ever since you binged the first series in a single day. Today is the day! Sadly it’s only another eight episodes (WHY) but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers. If you haven’t seen Queer Eye, it is one of the best programmes on TV: five amazing gay men meet a different person in each episode and help them to overhaul their life. Food, culture, fashion, beauty, and home – everything is covered. I cried at least twice in each episode in season one and I can’t see this new season being any different! It is happy, pure, and wonderful.
And now for something completely different… The Staircase. This is a 13-part series that follows the true story of the death of Kathleen Peterson, and the subsequent court case in which her husband is accused of her murder. It’s a really famous case and I have heard the story so many times, but this series has had me riveted. If you liked The Keepers and Making A Murderer, I think you’ll like this – you can watch the trailer at the link above.
Another very famous case is the subject of the podcast Heaven’s Gate. Their blurb explains it better than I ever could: ‘In 1997, thirty-nine people took their own lives in an apparent mass suicide. The events captivated the media and had people across the planet asking the same question…‘Why?’ 20 years later, those who lost loved ones and those who still believe – tell their story.’ The host – Glynn Washington – grew up in a cult himself, so he has a unique take on the whole story. It’s sad, fascinating, and really well done.
Earlier this week I spoke at Vogue House (yes that still sounds completely bonkers to say!) – if you want to read more about why have a peek at this post – and I had such a wonderful time. I did two talks and met some truly lovely people, so thank you if you watched, asked a question, or came to chat to me afterwards. I knew it would be a manic day, so I wanted to wear make up that made me feel amazing but also wouldn’t need lots of maintenance as I would be out all day. I chose the Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Liquid Lipstick in ‘Rose Ink’* and I am absolutely in love with it: it goes on like a lacquer, with a saturated and opaque glossy finish, but it soon dries down to matte finish and – the best part – it stains the lips. No horrid line where the colour rubs off, no issues with eating or drinking, just wonderful bright colour all day. I am sold and need more colours immediately if not before.
Talking of Pinterest, here are some of my absolutely favourites boards at the moment just in case you’re looking for some inspiration: Summer Holiday Fashion; Girl Gang Assemble!; and Editorial Make Up. Are you on Pinterest? Let me know and I’ll give you a follow!
And my final Friday Faves recommendation is the amazing Avène Tolérance Extrême Mask, which has featured on my blog and social media more times than I can count. I love most Avène products and recommend them to anyone with sensitive or picky skin, but the Tolérance Extrême range in particular is a winner for me as it was formulated to have as few ingredients as possible to limit the chance of irritation. I apply this whenever my skin is feeling upset, warm, or dry and it instantly helps.
I hope you enjoyed this quick Friday Faves – hopefully you’ve discovered something to keep you entertained this weekend! As always, I’d love to hear what you’ve been watching, listening to, reading, buying, wearing, or doing. Let me know in the comments below!
