Topshop The Damned Lipstick

Topshop The Damned Lipstick

I’ve reviewed some of the Topshop lipbullets before so you will know that I have a lot of love for that formula and colour range. I’ve also got a few of the actual lipsticks which are on my ‘to blog’ pile (I am so far behind!) This particular lipstick called to me not only due to the great name but also the deep, burgundy colour of the lipstick in the bullet. I had been wanting some more dark colours for a while so when I saw this, I knew I needed it.

The other lipsticks I’ve tried by Topshop were matte so I was intrigued to see what their velvet formula offerings were like.

I am torn. On the one hand, this lipstick feels lovely to wear and looks wonderful. Sorry for the dark photo above but that’s the only way I could show the true colour of this lipstick – in artificial light it looks more pinky but is definitely a bit vampier in natural light. The formula is creamy and easy to apply although as it becomes more matte as time goes on it feels a bit drying. It’s also not as long lasting as the matte versions, but that’s to be expected I suppose.

The Topshop packaging is a definite thumbs up: matte, simple and instantly recognisable. Love it.

This is still one of my favourite darker lipstick shades and is apparently a pretty good dupe for MAC ‘Rebel’ (a lipstick that is definitely on my wishlist) I just wish it lasted a bit longer.

Which are your favourite Topshop lipsticks, I think I need more!

I’m not going to lie to you: I mainly bought this lipstick because of the packaging. I adore it. I am a total sucker for packaging, I’m a marketers dream. Anything pretty, bright or unusual… I’m in. So this caught my eye in Superdrug immediately. I picked a shade that I thought looked pretty and didn’t even try swatching it or looking at reviews. So it is a happy coincidence that I absolutely love this lipstick.

It is very buttery in its consistency, I don’t think I own another lip product that is as creamy. This makes it super easy to wear as it’s not drying and you can’t really tell you have it on which is always nice. However, it can smudge a bit and does get everywhere (on coffee cups, food, boyfriend’s face…)

As you can see from the pictures it’s ultra pink, almost neon, but in a very flattering and wearable way.

Have you tried any of the Accessorize lipsticks or other things from their range? It doesn’t look like they do this lipstick any more but you can see their current range which is just as ridiculously pretty HERE.

Feb 2016 EDIT – looking back at this post makes me sad as my skin was so bad – my rosacea and dermatitis was so severe and my foundation looks cakey and horrible. I was tempted to delete this post but wanted to be able to see how far my skin has come in a few years.

Daniel Sandler Luxury Matte Lipstick Red Carpet

Daniel Sandler Luxury Matte Lipstick Red Carpet

I got the Daniel Sandler Luxury Matte Lipstick Red Carpet in the ASOS sale ages ago and can’t believe I haven’t blogged about it already – it is a stunning, true red lipstick. Although it is a matte lipstick, it has a really great formula: smooth, moisturising (that’ll be the hyaluronic acid!) and doesn’t cling to any dry patches. Win, win, win!

The colour is really pigmented so you need to be careful with the lip line, but means that you only need one good coat straight from the bullet.

It also lasts really well and stains a little bit so that any wear that does happen is not very noticeable. I can’t wait to get more colours from this range.

You can buy Daniel Sandler lipsticks HERE.

This is a new favourite product of mine: a truly matte lip product that doesn’t dry out my lips.

You paint this on like a lip gloss with the sponge doe-foot applicator. The colour is ridiculously pigmented and opaque in one coat. The applicator is a little tricky to use, just because it is so pigmented so any mistakes or wobbly lines show up and you do need to be precise with this because it dries quickly and really does stay put!

When you first apply it is glossy and shiny and then before your eyes it dries to the most amazing matte finish. A PROPER matte finish. And it has great longevity – I wouldn’t say it’d last all day, but the first time I used this I applied it on the way to a work party at about 4pm. The drinks were free so this product was really put to the drinks test and it Did. Not. Budge. To the point where on the tube home at midnight I was scrubbing it off my lips with a wet wipe!

The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks contain Vitamin E and avocado oil so they don’t dry out your lips which can be a downside of matte lip products. As with anything matte, I would recommend exfoliating your lips before application as this will show up flakes like a mofo.

I am definitely going to get some of the other colours from this range as this is LOVE.

You can buy this range HERE.

Dainty Doll It’s My Party Lipstick

Dainty Doll It's My Party Lipstick

Dainty Doll It’s my Party Lipstick

Dainty Doll is a cosmetics brand started by Nicola Roberts (yes, the one from Girls Aloud). She has red hair with very pale skin and became fed up of trying out cosmetics that didn’t go light enough or suit her colouring. So she made her own brand. Pretty bad ass really!

I didn’t have high hopes for this lipstick, I don’t know why but the Girls Aloud connection put me off a bit…but I was so wrong. This lipstick is GORGEOUS. It is slightly matte so you have to moisturise your lips well with balm beforehand but it means that it is long-lasting. I quite like the semi-matte look, but if you don’t you can pop a bit of gloss over the top.

The lipstick looks like such a bright coral in the tube but applies to be a bit more subtle – it still catches the eye but doesn’t blind you!

2016 update: Dainty Doll as a brand no longer exists, which I think is sad as there aren’t many cosmetics brands who focus solely on very pale skin tones. Perhaps it will reappear in future.
