Beauty Products Too Pretty To Use

I am a superficial person. I can hold my hands up and say that. If a product is pretty, there’s a high chance I’ll be clicking ‘add to basket’. If you are the same way, this collection of ‘Beauty Products Too Pretty To Use’ will hopefully resonate with you.

Wanting pretty things is not a problem per se. The problem comes from the fact that I’m also a hoarder and find it very hard to use things up. When I was a child I would have drawers and drawers full of stickers, notebooks, stationery, pens… all of which I loved with all my heart and therefore didn’t want them to run out or look messy. I still have a compulsion to buy notebooks and never use them, but my main issue is now beauty products.

But I am trying to get better. I can’t keep saving products for a special day. I’m going to make this grey Monday – where I’m not leaving the house – a ‘special day’ by putting on a great lipstick. I wrote the notes for this blog post in a beautiful notebook that was unspoiled until today. And now that I’ve photographed these beautiful products I am actually going to use them, I promise. I can just look at this blog post if I want to admire their original beauty!

It goes without saying that most of the products below are high end, luxury items and the prices reflect that, which probably adds to my reluctance to use them!

Beauty Products Too Pretty To Use: Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist

I have spoken about facial mists before on the blog and they are one of those products that divide people. My opinion is that they are not a ‘must-have’: by that I mean if you are short on time, money, effort… facial mists are a step that can be skipped without a huge impact on your skin. However, if you’re like me and like to spend time on your skin, like a bit of TLC and want to add a bit of moisture then facial mists are something you should look into. If you have atypical skin – rosacea, psoriasis, eczema – then a facial mist can be very soothing and cooling. I always have one with me during summer months or on holiday, and keeping one in the fridge may be the best thing you’ve ever done for your skin! The most luxurious and beautiful facial mist I’ve ever used is the Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist*. I tried a sample months ago and was so excited to receive this limited edition 50ml bottle… but I find it so hard to use it because I want it to always look like this! I’m a sucker for frosted glass and the addition of the peacock feather motif is just beautiful. The mist contains the famous thermal waters from Hungary, orange blossom, rose and sage waters and as a result the smell is just incredible. My skin is very sensitive to fragrance but this has never made me flare up or experience any irritation, but it’s worth noting if you do have sensitive skin.

Beauty Products Too Pretty To Use: Make Up Store 'Charcoal Grey' eyeshadow

My lovely friend Bex travels a lot for work and when she was last in Sweden she picked up this beautiful Make Up Store Marble Microshadow eyeshadow for me. The combination of the colours in this eyeshadow (this is ‘Charcoal Grey’), along with the snakeskin pattern of the powder, means I just haven’t been able to bring myself to use it yet. But this week is the week I finally bite the bullet … I promise, Bex! The combination of pink, blue and purple is so stunning, in fact it is probably the most beautiful item in my pile of ‘beauty products too pretty to use’. I am really excited to see how the colour turns out when you blend these shades.

The last item in this round up of beauty products too pretty to use is the By Terry Blush Sun Designer Palette in ‘1 – Tan and Flash Cruise’. The outer packaging caught my eye, but the inside had me swooning! It’s a palette that includes bronzers, blushers and highlighters, with a mix of matte and shimmer formulas. There were two versions of this and I think this one was more tailored to WoC or those with a tan as the colours are so vibrant, and the lighter version may have been a better fit for me (this was a gift from a fellow blogger). I’m going to try this palette out this week and just be VERY light-handed with the blushers! I think this would be a gorgeous palette to take away on holiday as, not only do you have blusher, bronzer and highlight in one but, the colours could double up as eyeshadows as well.

I don’t know if you’ve read Sali Hughes’ book “Pretty Honest” yet (if not, do) but she has a whole chapter about using the good stuff now. It’s something I struggle with too (ditto the beautiful notebooks) but products don’t last forever so you may as well use them and get pleasure from them. That they’re made to be destroyed is part of the charm, I think. I still have a lovely l’Occitane toiletries set that I’ve been saving for a trip away (but in the meantime using unlovely minis from hotel bathrooms when I travel. Why?). Good luck with using lovely things. We deserve to feel great now.
