Instagram has really lost its shine in the past year. The algorithm changes mean that the bigger your account the fewer people see it, certain bloggers are buying followers, the spammy comments with no relevance to the content … I’ve just fallen out of love with it a little bit. I became too obsessed with the number of likes each photo would get, how many comments, the feedback, and it just completely took the fun out of it. So I decided to set myself a challenge to keep me interested and the rainbow make up challenge was born!
In case you don’t follow me on Instagram (if not, you can rectify that HERE and make my day!) I have been posting photos based on a colour theme: six photos per each colour of the rainbow. And because my Instagram theme requires a lot of selfies, this means a whoooooole bunch of bright make up looks. Now that my (self-imposed) challenge is over, I’ve decided to pull together all of the looks in my rainbow make up series for you to look at. There are quite a few photos but have a scroll through and let me know your favourite look in the comments below! I’ve added details of key products used under each photo, but let me know if you want other details.

I hadn’t tried using a liquid lipstick as eyeliner before but ever since this picture I’m a convert. Key products used in the look above: Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation, BH eyeshadow palette, Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick ‘Red Rum’, and Bourjois liquid lipstick ‘Nude-ist’.

Oh Gerard Cosmetics, you had me at ‘matte metallics’! The Gerard Cosmetics liquid lipsticks are flipping brilliant, I highly recommend you check them out if you’re a fan of a long-lasting matte lip. Key products used in the look above: Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Metallics ‘Cherry Bomb’* and Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation.

This is a classic look for me when I don’t have time to do a full make up look: neutral all over and a strong lip. Key products used: Heroine Make BB cream ‘Light’ (FYI I haven’t bought from this seller before), and Sephora Cream Lip Stain in ’01 Always Red’.
ORANGE

The NYX Ultimate Shadow ‘Brights palette appears quite a few times in this series for very good reason: it’s beautiful, the pigmentation is incredible, and it has a high-street price… win win win! Other key products used: L’Oréal Paris True Match foundation and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ‘Plath’.

The orange make up looks continue with this beautiful summery liquid lipstick, NYX Liquid Suede ‘Foiled Again’*. Other products used: Heroine Make BB cream ‘Light’ and Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette*.

A throwback look for my last orange entry with this amazing orange liquid lipstick. I hadn’t heard of the Arancil brand before, but when I was wandering around Gallerie Lafayette their liquid lipsticks jumped out at me. If you see them anywhere, I recommend you pick some up! The foundation was DiorSkin Forever – one of my all time favourites for a full coverage matte finish.
YELLOW

Oh my gosh I cannot describe how much I love this make up look. I know that yellow/mustard eyeshadow won’t be for everyone but I think it looks so cool. I used the NYX Ultimate Shadow ‘Brights palette again, along with the Heroine Make BB cream, and Sephora Cream Lip Stain in ‘Marvellous Mauve’.

The Inglot gel eyeliner is so bright and pretty but was quite hard to layer without it going bobbly. If anyone has any tips please let me know! Other key products used in this look: I did a base layer of Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation* and then used DiorSkin Forever to go over my rosacea redness; the lipstick is another Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in ‘Bow and Arrow‘.

GREEN

I knew this look would divide people but I flipping love this so much. As mentioned in the caption, the lipstick is Sephora Cream Lip Stain in ‘Siren Song’, but the foundation was L’Oréal Paris True Match foundation and the gorgeous turquoise mascara is NYX Colour Mascara in ‘Mint Julep’. What do you think about brightly coloured mascara?

Can you tell that the Sephora Cream Lip Stains are my favourite matte liquid lipsticks?! This one is called ‘Dark Forest’ and it’s so dramatic and vampy. The foundation used here was L’Oréal Paris True Match and the incredible highlighter was the Make Up Revolution Vivid Highlighter in ‘Peach Lights’, which is one of my all-time favourite highlighters if I want an intense glow.

Neon make up may be my favourite beauty look to play around with, it’s just so fun and eye-catching. I was a little disappointed that it creased so much, but I’m hoping a primer will help with that. The exact product was the NYX Full Throttle Shadow Stick in ‘Poison Prop’. The foundation was L’Oréal Paris True Match and the beautiful lipstick is the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in ‘Watermelon Slice’.
BLUE

Blue eyeliner will always have a place in my heart, it’s just so pretty and bright. If you haven’t tried anything from the Glo & Ray range I would really recommend them, they do some great products for a really reasonable price. This eyeliner (in ‘Summer Sky’*) is one I return to over and over again. I wanted a glowy base for this summery look, so I used Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum for my foundation, and another Kat Von D Everlasting liquid Lipstick (‘Double Dare’) on the lips.

Another ‘out there’ look that I think is very pretty but I accept that glitter lips are not for everyone! Have you tried the Glitter Lips products? This one is called ‘Breathless’* and it was even more sparkly in real life, perfect for fancy dress, festivals, or just a night out! The eye make up is courtesy of the amazing NYX Ultimate Shadow ‘Brights palette, and the foundation was the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless mixed with The Body Shop Instaglow CC Cream in ‘Bright Glow’.

My mum truly hates it when I wear blue lipstick – she will actually send me a message to tell me how ‘horrible’ it is. But I love it… sorry, Little Anne!
Another day, another Sephora Cream Lip Stain (‘Sea Mist‘), worn with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum and fairly natural make up elsewhere, to keep focus on the blue lips… as though focus could be anywhere else!
INDIGO

Polka dot eye make up is allll over Instagram and Pinterest at the moment so I was excited to try it out myself. I used quite a few different products to do the dots: Kiko Liquid Eyeliner, LA Splash Liquid Lipstick, and NYX Liquid Eyeliner. I really love how this looks and am definitely going to keep practising and try some other colour combinations. Would you try polka dot make up?

Not subtle since 1984! This feels like such a summer holiday appropriate look, I adore it. The blue eyeliner is the Kiko Liquid Eyeliner, the lipstick is Kat Von D ‘Malice’, and the foundation is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. The latter is my base of choice when I don’t want super high coverage or if I want something more dewy.

Another unusual but really fun look – this flash of blue eyeshadow was created using the Models Own ‘Sweet Dreams’ palette* which is a pastel lover’s dream. The brows are Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz in ‘Taupe’, and the lashes are Maybelline Lash Sensational – probably my favourite mascara ever.
VIOLET

The overwhelming response to this picture was that I should definitely bring back the fringe! I think I will as I do miss it, but I think I’ll wait until the weather gets a little bit cooler. Yet another selfie featuring a Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (‘Requiem’)… I think I have a problem!

I’m really getting my money’s worth out of the NYX Ultimate Shadow ‘Brights palette! This pretty lilac eye make up look makes me feel very bright and cheerful… so obviously I had to grunge it up a little bit with a grey-toned lipstick! I used an LA Splash Lip Couture liquid lipstick in ‘Ghoulish‘ and my trusted L’Oréal Paris True Match foundation.

And this is the last look! This may be my favourite of the whole bunch… lilac hair, neon pink eye make up – what’s not to like? I used Crazy Color temporary hair dye in ‘Lavender’, the eyeshadow is from the Sleek i-Divine palette in ‘Acid’* (which I can’t find online but this one looks just as bright and pretty – ‘Rio Rio’), the pink mascara is from Sephora, and the lipstick is Rimmel Kate Moss ‘101’ – a really pretty pinky-nude.
And that’s your lot – 21 rainbow make up looks! Which one is your favourite? Have any of them inspired you to try out a new colour that you wouldn’t have considered before? Let me know in the comments…

I adored this! It was such a great idea and really made you stand out in my feed. And GIRL you can wear any blooming colour in the rainbow!
This is a fantastic idea! We all should try this! My favourites were:
-The third red look, as I liked the simplicity of it and the red lipstick really suited you.
-The first indigo look, because that pointillism-style eyeliner was really striking.
-And the third pink look, because I love the vibrant colour around your eyes!
I’m following you on Instagram now to see more 🙂

I love this!!! So much fun! And how do you pull off all these colours!!!!!
It’s so hard to choose a favourite! I think the last pink one has to be my winner but god damn it they are just all so good!
