Today’s blog post features the Too Faced Melted Latex lipsticks*, which are something a little bit different for me: a liquid lipstick with a glossy finish. The photos in this post are a very rare sight as I am a matte-lip-girl through and through. Prepare your eyes!
The first thing that struck me (after I got over the shock of them being glossy…!) was the colours in the Too Faced Melted Latex range. There are 16 in the collection and they range from light nudes, to the darkest vampy shades. If you know my tastes I think you will guess that I was especially excited to try out the purples in the group above!
The Melted Latex products are glossy liquid lipsticks that somehow manage to be fairly long-lasting and not overly sticky – something I was dreading before I put them on. I would actually describe them more as ‘lacquers’ as I think that describes the formula and finish so much better. They are amazingly pigmented and opaque on the first swipe (apart from some patchiness issues which I go into in more detail below).
Let’s get into the swatches as I think they’re even prettier on the lips that they are in the tubes. Full disclosure, I did some FaceTune around the edges of the lips on these pictures as there was some redness and uneven texture (from constantly applying and removing lip products) and this made the swatches look uneven at the edges and didn’t reflect how the products actually looked on the lips. I didn’t alter the patchy spots so you can see which ones had issues with formula.
From left to right below we have: Twilight Zone, Bye Felicia, Can’t Touch This, Bite Me, and Strange Love.
Twilight Zone – a pale lavender colour that is so pretty and surprisingly wearable. I thought that, as it was a pastel shade, it would be quite streaky but it actually applied very well.
Bye Felicia – a cool purple shade that – as you can probably see in the photo below – was very, very streaky. I don’t know why this shade out of all of them was so different when it came to formula but no matter how carefully I applied it or lightly I layered it it just seemed to pull the product away from the lips. I really love the colour but it just looks messy, so I would have to wear this over a lipstick I think.
Can’t Touch This – A deep plum shade that is such a beautiful colour, but a little bit patchy as well. This rich purple shade is so flattering and perfect for this time of year but I just wish it went on a bit smoother. When you wear darker shades they really show up any flaws so the application has to be perfect, perhaps as above I could wear a lipstick underneath.
Bite Me – Swoon! This deep red is so vampy and dramatic, I love it. If you read my blog a lot you’ll know that I have a red lip obsession, and I actually quite like the different look of the shiny finish – it makes a nice change from my usual matte look. Oddly enough, this wasn’t patchy or streaky at all which surprised me – you would think it would be the darker colours that had issues with coverage. I’m torn between this one and ‘Twilight Zone’ for which is my favourite…
Strange Love – If you offered me a chocolate brown coloured lipstick I would not have been interested. I’m not a nude lip kind of girl and brown is not something I usually gravitate towards. But this is actually really lovely. It’s warm so feels very autumnal and modern, and I’m really pleased I tried it.
So what do you think to the Too Faced Melted Latex liquid lipsticks? As an avowed matte lip fanatic, it was fun to try something so different and these are definitely the most bold glossy lip products I’ve tried. Some of the colours may need some help with layering to achieve full opacity but overall I’m very impressed. If you like the bold impact of liquid lipsticks but prefer a gloss finish then these are worth a go.
