Game Of Thrones Nail Art

I thought I would celebrate my return to nail art with a bang! I have got out of the habit of doing nail art and I actually missed it a lot as I find it really calming. So I decided to start a regular day on my blog to force me into doing nail art more often.

I asked Aaron what he’d like me to do for the first Nail Art Sunday and he immediately said Game of Thrones (our current TV series obsession) so here we go!

The nails are, from thumb to little finger: House Stark; House Lannister; House Baratheon; House Targaryen; and House Tyrell.

I hope you like them, I really enjoyed creating them. I’m a bit rusty with the detailing so please forgive any messy bits!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Fiore

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Fiore

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Fiore

This is a new favourite product of mine: a truly matte lip product that doesn’t dry out my lips.

You paint this on like a lip gloss with the sponge doe-foot applicator. The colour is ridiculously pigmented and opaque in one coat. The applicator is a little tricky to use, just because it is so pigmented so any mistakes or wobbly lines show up and you do need to be precise with this because it dries quickly and really does stay put!

When you first apply it is glossy and shiny and then before your eyes it dries to the most amazing matte finish. A PROPER matte finish. And it has great longevity – I wouldn’t say it’d last all day, but the first time I used this I applied it on the way to a work party at about 4pm. The drinks were free so this product was really put to the drinks test and it Did. Not. Budge. To the point where on the tube home at midnight I was scrubbing it off my lips with a wet wipe!

The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks contain Vitamin E and avocado oil so they don’t dry out your lips which can be a downside of matte lip products. As with anything matte, I would recommend exfoliating your lips before application as this will show up flakes like a mofo.

I am definitely going to get some of the other colours from this range as this is LOVE.

You can buy this range HERE.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair 2

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

I mentioned in my Dermalex review post that I have recently rehauled my skincare regime and have seen great results. Dermalex really helped with controlling my rosacea flare ups and redness but this product is what has helped with everything else.

When I researched Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair before buying it, everybody raved about it’s magical properties but they also made sure that I was under no illusions that it was a instant miracle product. I don’t trust skin care products that promise an instant change – a true, positive change to your skin care regime takes time and patience.

I have been using this serum for about a month and the changes were so subtle that I didn’t even notice them happening.

All of a sudden I realised that my skin was better than it’s ever been: the tone is more even, the dry patches on my cheeks are gone, my skin looks more luminous, smoother and plumped up. If I sound like I’m raving…I am. This stuff is my new ‘can’t live without’ product. As you can see from the pictures, I even got a mini version from eBay so that I can still have it with me on holiday! This product is an investment – by which I mean it’s fairly expensive. It’s £70 for 50ml from Boots. But I only use half a pipette per day so it will last me ages. Plus, from what it does to my face, I don’t begrudge paying it!

You can buy it HERE.

Barry M Gelly Key Lime

Barry M Gelly Key Lime

I’ve reviewed some of the other Barry M Gelly polishes before and have been very vocal about how much I like them, but I was a bit disappointed by this polish.

The colour is amazing – you can see that from the pictures. I am a huge fan of green polishes on all forms but lime green holds a special place in my heart. This is no exception. It’s bright, it’s summery, it’s obnoxious… it’s perfect. But the formula was a nightmare. It was so thick and stringy. I added some nail varnish thinner to it but it was still horrible. It was drying as I was trying to apply it, which made it drag and made the finish bumpy. I had to apply two coats of Seche Vite to make it look presentable, which is a first for me with Barry M polishes. I’m hoping it was just a bad batch as I have some other polishes from this range lined up to try and will be gutted if they’re just as bad.

You can buy the range HERE. Do let me know your experiences with this product as I’m hoping it’s just this bottle.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I have never bought in to the idea that you need to use tons of brushes for make up. I always found it easier and quicker to just use my fingers to apply and blend. But I heard rave reviews about the Real Techniques brushes and wanted to see if they lived up to it.

Holy. Moly.

I am in love. These brushes are one of the best things I have ever bought and considering the size of my beauty collection I think that’s saying something.

These brushes are perfect for applying foundation but can also be used for blush as well. The domed brush means you can get into corners and blend your foundation really well. The brush is unlike anything I’ve ever used as it is so firm with lots of densely packed bristles but it is so incredibly soft that, even on my sensitive skin, it’s not aggravating or harsh.

The brush is very thirsty and tends to drink foundation meaning that you use a lot more than you usually would, so I use it to apply my primer first as this helps to stop it absorbing so much of your base.

The finish using this brush is truly brilliant – the brush helps you to buff the foundation into your skin creating a flawless, almost airbrushed finish. I was also wrong about the lasting power – applying with a brush does help it to stay in place longer.

I am eating humble pie here – I won’t ever go back to applying with my fingers. I’ve also found that applying with a brush means my face doesn’t get as hot – sometimes my rosacea flares up when I’m applying make up and I’m now thinking it might be because I’m transferring heat from my hands to my face.

You can se the whole Real Techniques range HERE.
